    Excellent, compassionate care and rehab

I was very pleased with the clean, bright facility and warm, professional staff - nurses, CNAs, PT/OT and administration were compassionate, responsive, and knowledgeable. Rehab helped my relative recover quickly, meals and activities were good, communication with family was excellent, and I felt she was safe and well cared for.

    Summary of reviews

Atlas Healthcare at Maywood elicits strongly mixed impressions across reviewers. Many families and patients praise the facility for its rehabilitation strengths, compassionate bedside staff, and a bright, hotel‑like environment. Physical and occupational therapy teams receive consistently high marks for promoting recovery after surgery or illness. Numerous comments highlight welcoming reception and concierge staff, spacious rooms with natural light, varied activity programming, and a neighborhood setting that many find pleasant and convenient.

At the same time, a recurring theme across feedback is operational inconsistency. Staffing levels are frequently described as uneven, with particular strain at night and on weekends; this is associated with delayed responses to calls for assistance and lapses in routine care. Several reviewers described gaps in clinical oversight and emergency response that families found concerning. There are also repeated statements about variable staff training and conduct, producing an inconsistent resident experience depending on shift and personnel.

Dining and activities are points of contrast: some families praise made‑to‑order breakfasts, varied meal choices, and an active programming schedule, while others cite episodes of poor meal quality or missed service. Housekeeping and sanitation receive mixed assessments — many note clean, pleasant common areas, whereas others describe punctuality issues with room cleaning, laundry errors, and episodic sanitation concerns. Maintenance and therapy equipment availability are also cited as limited at times, which can affect rehabilitation plans that rely on a gym or specialized devices.

Communication and administration show a similar split. Several reviewers commend specific leaders and frontline administrators for responsiveness, insurance navigation, and hands‑on assistance. However, others report difficulty reaching staff by phone, inconsistent family communication around clinical incidents, and slow resolution of complaints. A few serious claims extend to delayed emergency attention and hospital transfers; these have resulted in heightened family concern about clinical protocols and should prompt direct inquiry during any placement decision. There are also allegations regarding pressure to change coverage or convert short‑term stays to longer placements, which families should review with admissions and care managers.

In summary, Atlas Healthcare at Maywood appears to offer high‑quality rehabilitation services, an attractive physical environment, and many dedicated caregivers who provide thoughtful, recovery‑focused care. Concurrently, the facility demonstrates operational vulnerabilities — notably inconsistent staffing, communication gaps, sanitation and maintenance variability, and uneven clinical oversight — that have tangible impact on some residents. Prospective residents and families would benefit from asking targeted questions about staffing ratios for the specific unit and shift, emergency response procedures, infection control practices, laundry/property policies, and the availability of therapy equipment during a tour. Observing shift change, speaking with the therapy team, and requesting recent inspection or staffing data can help assess whether the facility’s strengths align with an individual’s care needs.

    About Atlas Healthcare at Maywood

Atlas Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center at Maywood sits at 100 West Magnolia Avenue in Maywood, New Jersey, and the place serves as a skilled nursing facility offering both subacute care and long-term care, and it does have a rehab gym, a Nurses Station, and uses healthcare technology to support both residents and rehab patients, which is important for people needing a higher level of clinical care. The center isn't listed for sale or rent anywhere public, and it does support protections against discrimination in housing and employment under federal law, so renters or anyone working or living there do get protections based on gender identity, orientation, race, and other statuses, and the region recognizes protections for source of income, even for folks with housing choice vouchers, which can help some people find a way in. The center has nursing, respiratory, subacute rehab, infectious disease, pulmonary care, and respite care, and it's known for keeping a patient-centered approach, trying to give attention, respect, and dignity to everyone staying there, so it's intended to feel more comfortable. New owners expanded the continuum of clinical services, so there are more options now than before, and people describe the atmosphere as community-oriented, meant to help folks stay comfortable and involved, with recreation and even some personalized concierge amenities, though there aren't recorded outdoor features or any big amenities outside that you'd notice walking around, and they do allow pets for those who want to bring an animal. The place offers several types of rental housing as well, including apartments, condos, townhomes, and single-family homes, though interior features aren't listed in detail anywhere, so what you get inside can vary. Atlas Healthcare at Maywood operates as part of a wider Atlas Healthcare network, so people there get the benefit of an organization that's done this work elsewhere, and they keep a special focus on attentive care and improving health and wellbeing. The website for the place is maywoodrehab.com, and there you'll find more about what they can do for different medical and rehab needs.
