    Excellent post surgery rehab care

I stayed here for post-surgery rehab and was very pleased. The PT/OT team and nurses were kind, encouraging and effective - my pain was managed and my mobility improved (now walking with a cane and navigating stairs better). The building was spotless, food was good, activities engaging, and staff from concierge to therapists went the extra mile with a home-safety assessment and discharge plan. I felt safe, supported and would recommend them for nursing and rehab care.

    Summary of reviews

CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue presents a mixed but distinct profile. Many families and residents praise the facility’s strong rehabilitation program, noting measurable gains in mobility, balance, self‑care and successful transitions home. Physical and occupational therapists are frequently described as professional, encouraging and outcome‑focused; several accounts highlight rapid progress and comprehensive therapy plans. The environment itself is commonly described as clean, modern and well maintained, with updated decor, a welcoming lobby, and comfortable rooms that contribute to a positive recovery atmosphere.

Direct‑care staff—including many nurses, CNAs and ancillary therapists—receive repeated commendation for compassion, friendliness and hands‑on assistance. Visitors and families often single out the concierge and social‑work teams for helpful orientation and care‑coordination support. Pain management, respiratory care and other ancillary services are frequently effective in many stays, and the activities department is noted for creative programming and special events that enhance resident mood and engagement.

Counterbalancing these strengths are consistent operational concerns that appear repeatedly across reviews. Medication management lapses (delayed doses, dosing errors and occasional documentation problems) and irregular responsiveness to call bells are the most cited clinical issues. Staffing patterns are variable: daytime care teams may be robust, while nights and weekends are described as thinly staffed, with reliance on agency or outsourced personnel that can reduce continuity of care. Reviewers also described gaps in clinical escalation and emergency response processes; there are serious individual allegations about failures to initiate timely emergency escalation in a small number of cases. Additionally, sanitation and incontinence‑care concerns and pressure‑injury management issues are reported often enough that they should factor into care planning discussions.

Dining and activities reflect a mixed picture as well. Several reviews praise well‑prepared or gourmet‑style meals and attentive kitchen staff, while other accounts describe bland meals, inconsistent portioning, early meal service and variability between shifts. The activities program is a positive aspect for many residents, but some families found engagement limited or inconsistent depending on staffing and scheduling.

Management and communication show variance by case. Some families note accessible, visible leadership and proactive social‑work follow‑up; others describe poor responsiveness, delayed follow‑up on concerns, and a perception of defensive communication when clinical issues are raised. Discharge planning and home‑care instructions are a frequent area for improvement—several reviewers reported inadequate written instructions or insufficient medication and follow‑up coordination at discharge.

In summary, CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue combines a strong rehabilitation focus, many dedicated clinical and therapy staff, and a clean, comfortable environment with notable operational risks that affect safety and continuity for some residents. Prospective families should weigh the facility’s clear therapy strengths and pleasant physical environment against recurrent concerns about medication processes, staffing consistency (particularly overnight/weekend), emergency escalation protocols, sanitation and discharge planning. Practical steps for families: meet the nursing and therapy leads during a tour, ask for details on medication‑administration checks and staffing at night/weekends, request written discharge and medication instructions in advance, and identify a social‑work or concierge contact who can serve as an active point person while your loved one is in care.

    About CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue

CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue sits on the same campus as CareOne at The Cupola in Paramus, New Jersey, and gives care for up to 110 people who might need long-term care, sub-acute rehab seven days a week, respite stays, or medical specializations covering many kinds of health needs, and this nursing center stands out for having a strong staff that's trained and available, with on-site physician specialists and consults that cover things like advanced wound care, cardiac care, nephrology, psychiatry, infection control, orthopedic and pulmonary rehab, sepsis and stroke recovery, ventilator weaning, and pain management, and the place also has a dementia-certified staff and a full-time dementia care specialist looking after people with memory loss, which is important to families dealing with Alzheimer's or other forms of memory care needs, while the amenities are useful but simple with air conditioning, restrooms, wheelchair ramps, and decent parking for both residents and visitors, and the day-to-day life brings entertainment and full activity calendars with programs like Forever Fit and events, so people have plenty of ways to stay active, be social, and keep up their mental and physical strength, and there's always staff close by, helping with medical needs, personal care, and encouragement, with programs meant to promote friendships and social connections, and the kitchen tends to a range of different palates with its culinary program, and even though this is a medical setting, people will find a home-like atmosphere that tries to foster comfort and safety for folks who are aging, recovering from illness, or dealing with serious health events like strokes or complex conditions, with palliative and hospice care available too, and those who need support after a serious event like a coma can move between this building and The Cupola for specialized rehab and attentive daily care until recovery, so CareOne at Ridgewood Avenue tries to cover a wide range of needs for seniors with its attention to medical detail, friendly and skilled staff, and modern but understated approach, and while there's not much detailed information about every feature or amenity, many have recognized it as one of the best nursing homes in the country for its overall quality, and the focus always stays on giving people independence, keeping their spirits up, and making sure their health is well looked after with the latest practices and therapies their teams know how to provide.
