    Nice facility but racist incident

I live here and the apartments are beautiful, the building is clean and safe, care is excellent, staff are generally attentive, problems get fixed promptly, and the board/manager are proactive with lovely holiday parties. Unfortunately I personally witnessed racist behavior from landscaping staff - racial slurs, hostile/accusatory conduct toward a visitor and an implied threat - which was deeply disturbing and unprofessional. I like the facility overall but that conduct left me uneasy and needs to be addressed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans positive with one highly concerning negative pattern. Multiple reviews praise Pompton Lakes Senior Housing for its clean, safe building and attractive apartments, and they describe staff as attentive and responsive. Several comments specifically highlight prompt maintenance and problem resolution, a proactive board and property manager, and the suitability of apartments for seniors. Social and community life is noted positively as well, with references to beautiful holiday parties and engaged events. Reviewers also use strong positive words like "excellent care," suggesting that many residents and visitors experience a high standard of day-to-day support and upkeep.

Care quality and staff behavior are among the most frequently mentioned themes. On the positive side, reviewers consistently report that staff are attentive to tenants' needs, repairs are handled quickly, and management appears proactive. These points indicate a well-run operation in terms of maintenance, resident services, and organizational oversight. However, juxtaposed with these positive accounts is a very serious set of allegations concerning racist and hostile behavior by landscaping staff. Reports include racial slurs, hostile and accusatory behavior toward a visitor, and an implied threat of violence. These allegations form a distinct and alarming pattern that significantly affects the perception of staff professionalism and resident safety for some reviewers.

Facilities and community aspects receive largely favorable comments: the building is described as clean and safe, apartments beautiful, and holiday events attractive and well-run. That consistent feedback supports the impression that the physical environment and communal programming are strengths of the property. The mention of "excellent care" also suggests that daily assistance and support services meet many residents' expectations. The presence of a proactive board and property manager further supports the idea that the facility is managed with attention to resident concerns and building upkeep.

Notable concerns and patterns to weigh are primarily social and safety related. The reports of racist conduct and unprofessional, threatening behavior by landscaping staff are serious red flags. Even if these incidents involve a subset of external or contracted workers, their impact on visitors' and residents' sense of safety and belonging is substantial. Reviews do not make clear whether management investigated or remedied these incidents; that lack of clarity itself is a concern. Additionally, single-word mentions such as "funeral parlor" and "masajd" (likely "masjid") appear in the review set without explanation. These could reflect nearby businesses or community landmarks, or they could relate to individual reviewers' experiences — the context is ambiguous, so the practical effect on daily life at the property is unclear from the reviews alone.

In summary, Pompton Lakes Senior Housing appears to offer many strengths: attractive and senior-appropriate apartments, clean and safe facilities, responsive maintenance, active management, and enjoyable community activities. These positives are offset by a small but significant number of reports describing racist, hostile, and potentially violent behavior by landscaping staff that undermine trust in personnel and the community atmosphere. Prospective residents and their families should weigh the generally strong operational and care indicators against these serious interpersonal concerns. When considering this property, it would be prudent to ask management directly about any incidents of discriminatory or threatening behavior, what steps were taken to address them, staff hiring and training policies (including contractors), security measures, and the facility's approach to diversity and inclusion. Also ask for clarification about the references to a funeral parlor and masajd to understand location context and any potential impact on living experience.
