    Warm, clean, compassionate memory care

I'm very pleased with Artis - a new, small memory-care community that's bright, impeccably clean and warm rather than institutional. The staff are compassionate, attentive and communicative, activities are engaging, meals and private rooms are excellent; it gave our family real peace of mind and I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Artis Senior Living of Somers presents as a new, well-appointed memory-care community with frequent praise for its staff, programming, and environment. Reviewers consistently highlight compassionate, well-trained caregivers and a high staff-to-resident attention model supported by on-site nursing and coordinated medical access. The community places clear emphasis on dementia-focused supports: individualized care plans, themed neighborhoods, memory-promoting design elements, and a range of therapies aimed at promoting independence and dignity.

Daily life is described as activity-rich and socially engaging. Families and residents note a robust life-enrichment program with varied activities, live music, therapy animals, outings, and events that encourage interaction and purpose. Dining receives positive comments for family-style service, appealing meals, and flexible snack/self-serve options. Private rooms with en suite bathrooms, bright common areas, neighborhood lounges, and accessible outdoor walking paths contribute to a home-like atmosphere that many families found comfortable and secure.

Operational strengths cited include a smooth intake and transition process, proactive case-manager leadership, frequent communication from care teams, and visible management presence at the front desk and in neighborhoods. Several reviews singled out individual staff members and Life Enrichment leadership for notable dedication and responsiveness, which families described as reducing caregiver burden and increasing peace of mind.

There are, however, some operational concerns to consider. A minority of reviewers described inconsistent communication and organizational lapses affecting care coordination, along with confusion around medical-proxy documentation. A few comments referenced variability in responsiveness to changes in condition. These observations suggest the facility may have uneven execution in administrative and clinical coordination despite generally strong frontline caregiving.

For prospective residents and families: the facility's strengths lie in its specialized memory-care orientation, warm and skilled staff, active programming, and thoughtfully designed physical environment. Visitors should use tours and admission discussions to clarify the facility's protocols for clinical communication, medical-proxy documentation, and escalation/response procedures to ensure alignment with their expectations for care coordination and consistency.

About Artis Senior Living of Somers

Artis Senior Living of Somers sits in a quiet neighborhood in Somers, NY, and is a new, bright, and clean community set up for seniors, with a special focus on people with memory issues like dementia and Alzheimer's. The building is small, which helps residents get to know each other, and it's laid out in four themed neighborhoods, each with its own living room, dining area, kitchen, and front porch, all leading to a Town Center where you'll find a barbershop, beauty salon, wellness center, program center, and an art studio. The whole place has about 10,000 square feet of indoor space and 12,000 square feet of secure patios, porches, and courtyards with covered sitting areas and walking paths for fresh air and visits with family. Safety shows up in small and big ways-medical alert systems, secure building features, home security, and on-site staff trained in dementia care, CPR, and 24-hour supervision by licensed nurses.

Every resident gets a memory care plan that looks at their needs, routines, likes, and habits, so folks can keep as much independence as they can while still having help when they need it. Residents get help with medicines, showering, getting dressed, using the restroom, eating, and moving around if needed; staff also help with hearing aids, medication management, personal hygiene, and getting around the building or going out to appointments or group outings. People who like to keep busy have lots of choices, with about seven activities a day, covering things like music, art, games, exercise, learning, and community trips. The activity program tries to keep minds active and helps with sleep, connection, purpose, and joy.

Each suite has a familiar, homey feel with daily housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance taken care of, plus Wi-Fi in all the shared spaces, easy-to-use internet, cell phone support, and technology that's helpful for seniors who want to stay in touch with family or friends. Food is thought through too, with three meals a day and snacks, all approved by a dietitian, and escorts to meals if needed. Folks who need home care or extra assistance, including transportation for errands or appointments, get help from staff or outside providers that the community works with. Memory care here means more structure and routine, with neighborhoods built for safety, independence, and easy movement, both inside and out-including covered outdoor spots so people can enjoy fresh air even if the weather's not perfect.

The staff aim to build a place that's safe and supportive, with lots of natural light, activities, and places to sit or walk, and they keep up with training in dementia care so everyone can respond in kind, compassionate ways if someone feels confused or anxious. There's also attention to small comforts and regular routines that can help lower stress and promote better health and happiness. The community motto is "Honoring Yesterday, Celebrating Today," and the approach tries to help each person keep their sense of self and enjoy their days as much as possible. With its small size, friendly caregivers, and careful design, the community helps residents feel at home, connected, and supported-especially for people who need memory care.
