    Compassionate care but inconsistent staffing

I placed my loved one here and overall I'm grateful - the staff are kind, attentive and genuinely caring, the grounds and courtyards are lovely, the food is good, and activities keep residents engaged so it truly can feel like home. That said, staffing is inconsistent (many agency workers), some nurses/aides have been unprofessional, and management/maintenance can be slow - we've experienced AC, plumbing and cleanliness lapses. For early-stage memory care and active seniors this is a strong option; for advanced dementia, bed-bound residents or families needing constant supervision, I would be cautious. It's pricey, but when the regular team is present you get excellent, compassionate care.

    About Brookdale Cary

Brookdale Cary sits in a quiet residential neighborhood in Cary, North Carolina, and focuses mainly on memory care for people living with Alzheimer's or dementia, with a purpose-built, free-standing memory care residence that's been designed to feel home-like and safe, so you'll see enclosed walking paths for safe wandering, small neighborhood designs, private bathrooms, companion suites, and studios in different sizes with options for furnished or unfurnished living. Staff stay on-site all day and night, with licensed nurses on call, medication care managers, and support for emergencies, and the property relies on technology like alarmed bracelets and a secured perimeter to prevent residents from getting lost, which helps a lot for those who may wander or need behavioral support. The unique Clare Bridge program, which has been around more than 30 years, sets a daily routine with six planned activities to help keep skills sharp and maintain a sense of self, while the Solace program uses things like aromatherapy and music, and assists bedtime and bathing, offering comfort for more advanced needs. Meals take into account low sodium and sugar diets, dementia-friendly menus, and the Clare Bridge Dining Program, recognized by ALFA as "Best of the Best," so there's always some help with eating and seating, little touches to make meals less stressful. Amenities cover a lot, like a beauty and barber shop, ice cream parlor, library, fitness center with adaptive equipment, activity rooms stocked for crafts and games, a cozy cafe with snacks and drinks, courtyards and gardens, a pet-friendly policy, and inside and outside common spaces meant for relaxation, group events, or quiet time. Staff help with daily living tasks, housekeeping, laundry, mobility like transfers and wheelchair use, and offer transportation for errands or doctor visits. Safety features include controlled building access, emergency response systems, fall prevention, wellness checks, and accessible design with things like Hoyer lifts and wheelchair showers. Visitors will see a calendar with seasonal parties, art classes, intergenerational events, group fitness, gardening, outings, religious services, and regular counseling or support for both residents and their families. Specialists such as dentists, podiatrists, therapists, and hospice care are all available on site if needed. The community takes private pay, checks, and Veterans Aid, and works to keep families informed about how their loved ones are doing and what's happening in the building. Everything here centers around wellness, familiar routines, and a safe, friendly environment where staff know how to handle difficult behaviors, wandering, and changing needs, all with some personal touches and understanding that every person is different and deserves routines and programs aimed at what helps them most.
