    Beautiful caring facility with concerns

I found the building beautiful, impeccably clean and bright with large windows, lovely common areas and a robust activities program (Garden Party, live music, baking, casino nights, etc.). Many staff are warm, caring and go above and beyond, and the memory-care/therapy services impressed me-my mom is happier and healthier since we moved her. That said, staffing turnover, uneven management, occasional lapses in care/food and high costs are real concerns. Overall I'd recommend touring, but ask detailed questions about staffing, oversight and fees.

    About Sunrise of Cary

Sunrise of Cary sits at 1206 W. Chatham Street in Cary, North Carolina, and has served seniors since 2008, so you've got a spot built with older adults in mind and you notice their commitment as soon as you walk in, with their rooms and halls easy to get around for wheelchairs and everyone using safety features like walkie-talkies for communication, and the staff keeps an eye out for everybody, ready to help with bathing, getting dressed, and managing medicine when someone needs it, so it's honest and steady care day and night. Aging in place means folks can stay as their needs change, starting out more independent or moving into extra help like the assisted living services, skilled nursing, Dignity Home Care, and even short-term stays or hospice care if it comes to that, and if someone struggles with memory, there're special programs called Reminiscence Program and Terrace Club to help people with dementia or Alzheimer's. They don't stop at medical needs either-they've got plenty of activities, so you've got meals provided, indoor spots to gather, pet-friendly areas, special events, devotional services offsite, and a steady schedule of fun things and social gatherings, so no one's stuck in their own rooms unless they want some quiet. You see a lot of involvement from families and friends, from regular visits to community events and resident stories, because they want everyone to feel included while also giving privacy like home. They keep up with changes in care, using research and experience built over 35 years, and always tweaking things for wellness and safety-nothing too fancy, just steady, kind support. If you want to know more, their website points the way, and tours are open so you can see how the meals, activities, and community look and feel on an ordinary day.

Founded in 1981 by Paul and Terry Klaassen in Oakton, Virginia, Sunrise pioneered the Victorian mansion-style senior living community design, inspired by Dutch senior care models and European hospitality concepts. Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Sunrise offers a comprehensive continuum of care including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and hospice coordination.

The company's signature memory care programs include Terrace Club Neighborhoods for residents with early to moderate memory loss, and Reminiscence Neighborhoods for those with advanced Alzheimer's and dementia. Their Live With Purpose™ programming engages residents through personalized activities aligned with their interests and life experiences.

Sunrise leverages advanced technology including Sunrise CareConnect, an electronic health record system built on PointClickCare technology that enables real-time documentation, comprehensive health tracking, and remote access for healthcare providers. The Road Home Program offers specialized 30-day transitional care for seniors discharged from hospitals or rehabilitation centers, providing medication management and 24/7 support.

The company has achieved notable sustainability certifications, with facilities earning WELL Health-Safety Rating, WELL Equity Rating, ENERGY STAR® certifications, and LEED Silver designation. Sunrise communities feature Individualized Service Plans, Designated Care Managers, and welcome pets, with many locations maintaining community cats or dogs.
