    Compassionate staff, excellent food, value

I toured Forest Glen and am very pleased overall. The staff are kind, compassionate, and treat residents like family; medical and hospice care are knowledgeable and handled without rate increases. The food is excellent-large portions and fresh-baked bread-activities are plentiful in a quiet, park-like setting, and it's good value; I would recommend placing a loved one here.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Forest Glen Senior Residence present a mixed picture. Many accounts highlight strengths that are important to residents and families: direct-care staff are frequently described as kind, respectful and attentive; clinical and medical staff are viewed as knowledgeable; the setting is appealingly park-like and relatively quiet; and dining is often delivered in a restaurant-style format with menu choices and generous portions. Several reviewers specifically praised hospice support arrangements that did not trigger rate increases, and some considered the overall cost to represent reasonable value.

At the same time, a persistent theme across reviews is variability. Staff performance and care quality appear uneven — with particular praise for one floor and separate notes of decline on others. High staff turnover and inconsistent staffing levels were cited as contributors to variable daily care. While some visitors and families described warm, engaged serving staff and an involved activities director, others reported declining staff responsiveness and interpersonal issues among residents that staff did not always manage effectively.

Dining and activities also show a split pattern. Positive experiences include fresh-baked aromas, attentive service, and a range of activities and outings. Conversely, other accounts note cold meals, reduced meal quality, limits on offerings, and extra charges or inconsistent procedures for in-room meal delivery. These differences point to operational inconsistencies in kitchen and dining-service execution.

Facility condition and operations raise additional concerns. The building is described as older, with indications of underfunded maintenance leading to reliability problems such as elevator breakdowns. Several reviews reference cleanliness and pest-control concerns in some areas, and at least one reviewer described alleged theft of personal funds with limited follow-up, which contributes to family trust issues. Collectively these items suggest gaps in maintenance planning, environmental-services oversight, and security protocols.

Management and administration are the most frequent sources of dissatisfaction. Many reviewers characterized leadership as unresponsive, financially focused, or unprofessional in communication and follow-through. Ownership change and leadership turnover were noted as creating uncertainty about future changes. Conversely, where leadership engages positively, families reported markedly better experiences, which reinforces the sense that management style materially affects care quality and resident satisfaction.

For prospective residents and families: Forest Glen offers clear strengths in direct-care relationships, an attractive setting, and some strong dining and activity experiences, but those positives coexist with operational inconsistencies. When evaluating this community, consider an in-person visit to the specific unit or floor you are considering, ask for current staffing ratios and turnover statistics, review recent maintenance and pest-control records, inquire about meal-service policies and charges for in-room delivery, request examples of how the facility handles incident investigations and family communication, and confirm hospice and rate policies in writing.
