    Caring attentive memory care community

I placed my mom in this small, memory-care-focused community and am very pleased. It's clean, residents well groomed, nurses are on site, and the staff-especially the director and manager Lacra-are attentive, caring, and low-turnover; communication is excellent with Facebook updates and staff-shared photos so families stay informed. The individualized, loving atmosphere kept my mom comfortable, and I recommend this caring, supportive team.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Tabor Crest Residential Care is described primarily as a small, memory-care–focused community with committed leadership and a caregiving team that many families find attentive and compassionate. Reviewers frequently highlight on-site nursing involvement, individualized attention, and an environment that supports dignified presentation and comfort, including at end of life. Cleanliness and a well-kept interior are recurring positive points.

Care and staff: The facility's strengths center on direct caregiving and management engagement. Owners and a named director receive consistent praise for hands-on involvement, responsive communication, and patience in care planning. Families report good communication about care changes, routine updates (including social-media updates and photos), and continuity of familiar staff. At the same time, there are recurring notes that staff can appear tired or overworked during some shifts, and a subset of family members described curt or defensive interactions. This pattern suggests generally strong clinical commitment but intermittent workload and morale pressures that can affect frontline tone and engagement.

Dining and activities: Multiple reviewers described the food positively and noted an active activities program appropriate for a memory-care population. The small-community model appears to support individualized activities and social engagement led by staff. However, reports that volunteer involvement has been limited or restricted indicate that external community engagement may be inconsistent, which can reduce the broader range of social options available to residents.

Facilities and privacy: The facility is characterized as clean and comfortable, with residents described as well-groomed and appropriately dressed. The environment is clearly configured for memory-care needs; several families said that privacy and independent-living features are limited, which may make the setting less appropriate for individuals seeking a traditional assisted-living model. Additionally, photo-sharing practices via personal devices have raised privacy concerns for some families, suggesting opportunities to strengthen formal privacy and data-handling policies.

Management and policies: Management is generally portrayed as dedicated and communicative, with family-facing updates and active involvement during admissions. At the same time, there are noted tensions around specific policies — especially volunteer access and vaccination expectations — and occasional defensive communication in responses to criticism. These policy stances have been described as protective of residents but have also led to feelings of resident isolation among some family members. Pricing was described as relatively high relative to the service model, which is mainly memory care, so prospective families should compare cost to the level of independence and privacy they require.

Notable patterns and fit: Tabor Crest appears to be a strong fit for families seeking a small, memory-care–oriented community with hands-on ownership, consistent nursing involvement, and individualized attention. It may be less suitable for individuals who prioritize high levels of independent living, broad volunteer-driven programming, or lower-cost assisted-living options. Prospective residents and families should ask specifically about volunteer and visitation policies, staff staffing levels and shift coverage, privacy/photo policies, and how the community manages times when staff feel overextended to determine operational fit.

    About Tabor Crest Residential Care

Tabor Crest Residential Care sits in Portland, Oregon, and has space for 30 residents, all of whom can get memory care if needed, and you'll notice pretty quickly that the place looks and feels like a home, with private suites and apartments set up to give a sense of comfort and privacy. The staff includes registered nurses and fully trained caregivers who get to know each resident, working with them and their families to make sure they have an individualized care plan, since folks here often live with Alzheimer's or other memory problems, and the whole place is set up with safety in mind, with smoke detectors and sprinkler systems throughout. Tabor Crest has a strong focus on people living with dementia, and they've put together special programs that help residents stay connected to their lifelong routines and habits, while also offering lots of structured activities, both social and recreational, that match up with what residents actually like to do, and they even work hard to involve families with caregiver support programs.

Meals are prepared to match specific dietary needs, and there's a bit of local Portland flair mixed in, since some signature local dishes and made-from-scratch entrees are served, so people can enjoy food that feels familiar. Medication management, incontinence support, palliative care, and access to hospice services are all available, along with short-term respite stays if families need that. Residents can bring pets, take part in devotional services onsite, and spend time in both outdoor and indoor common areas, encouraging socialization in a cozy, nurturing environment. The facility doesn't allow indoor smoking and offers spaces for both men and women, and you'll find that the care model lets people age in place, so they don't have to move again if their needs change over time. With an all-inclusive monthly rent, there are no big upfront fees or long-term contracts, and the setting is near shopping, restaurants, and medical offices, making outings and doctor's visits easy when needed. Tabor Crest keeps things simple by focusing on dignity, respect, and real relationships, and they work steadily to support each person's health, happiness, and independence as they age.
