    Warm, attentive, clean memory care

I moved my mom into Cedar Crest's memory care and have been very pleased. The staff are warm, compassionate and knowledgeable - attentive to residents, communicative with family, and willing to go the extra mile. The community is clean, homey and well-maintained with good food, plenty of activities, secure common spaces and lovely touches like fireside lounges and a courtyard. Overall a comforting, professional place I would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Cedar Crest Alzheimer's Special Care Center elicits a mix of strong praise and operational concerns. Many families describe a warm, home-like environment with attractive common spaces — fireside rooms, a sunny atrium, manicured courtyard and secure ground-floor circulation — that support social interaction and outdoor access. The facility offers a range of room types and on-site amenities (beauty/barber shop, library, communal gathering areas) that reviewers found comfortable and well-appointed.

Care quality and staffing are the most frequently discussed topics. Numerous accounts commend compassionate, engaged caregivers and an experienced memory-care team; long-tenured staff and consistent 24/7 nursing coverage are repeatedly cited as strengths. Activity programming is another positive theme: organized music, exercise, outings and personalized celebrations receive favorable mentions. The center also partners with visiting healthcare providers and hospice, which families view as helpful for continuity of clinical care.

At the same time, there are recurring operational patterns that prospective families should note. Several reviews point to inconsistent staffing levels and variability in care continuity between shifts or units; those patterns are associated with concerns about timely response to incidents and family communication in some situations. Related themes include uneven infection-control or emergency-preparedness practices and occasional gaps in meal-service continuity. These are presented as facility-level process issues rather than isolated interpersonal problems.

Facility condition and navigation are mixed: many reviewers compliment cleanliness, maintenance of grounds, and tasteful décor, but others describe an older building footprint that needs targeted updates and occasional maintenance follow-through. The campus layout — while secure and varied — can feel large or spread out and may be confusing for residents with more advanced dementia without additional directional supports or staffing to assist movement.

Management impressions are divided. Some families praise proactive incident calls, clear explanations of activities, and responsive leadership; other accounts describe leadership turnover, unreliable phone follow-up, and inconsistent management oversight. Where families were satisfied, they highlighted attentive communication and a sense that staff went beyond duty; where they were dissatisfied, they pointed to persistent operational failures and uneven follow-through.

In sum, Cedar Crest offers notable strengths in caregiving compassion, memory-care experience, on-site nursing and enriching activities within an attractive, secure setting. However, consistent operational performance—especially reliable staffing, incident response, dining continuity and management stability—appears variable. Prospective residents and families would benefit from direct questions about current staffing ratios, recent leadership changes, fall-prevention and incident-response procedures, meal-service continuity, and the facility’s plan for navigating and supporting residents with advanced dementia during a visit or tour.
