    Moved mom, highly recommend community

I moved my mom here and we're very pleased. The staff are warm, skilled and attentive; the building and grounds are immaculate with lovely private patios, excellent dining and lots of activities, and the move-in was seamless - I'd recommend it to families looking for caring, well-run independent living.

    Summary of reviews

Anchor Bay at Pocasset elicits predominantly positive impressions centered on staff dedication, social programming, and the facility’s appearance. Many families and residents describe caregivers, activities personnel, and front-office staff as attentive, personable, and willing to provide individualized support; memory-care and nursing teams are frequently characterized as compassionate and engaged. The property’s grounds, common areas, and many apartments are commonly described as clean and well maintained, and the community emphasizes safety and infection-control measures, particularly during pandemic-related restrictions.

Activities and social life are a clear strength: an extensive calendar includes live performances, choirs, seasonal trips, exercise classes, clubs, and regular outings. Reviewers note that activities staff often go beyond basic programming to provide technology help, small-group engagement, and one-on-one connection. On-site amenities such as a beauty salon, movie room, and transportation/shuttle services complement the social offerings and support independent-living routines.

Dining impressions are mixed. Several accounts praise the dining-room ambiance, accommodating servers, and a variety of meal options; others describe inconsistent meal quality and limited dietary choices (for example, low-sodium alternatives). Families should confirm current menu offerings and how special diets are accommodated before deciding.

While many reviews highlight strong housekeeping and maintenance, a distinct pattern of inconsistency appears: housekeeping quality and follow-through on paid services (laundry, scheduled cleanings) vary between units and shifts, and a minority of families report delayed or incomplete room cleaning. Separate but related are unit-level maintenance differences—some residents experienced issues such as leaks or deferred repairs that took time to resolve. Apartment layouts also vary; several independent-living units lack full kitchen ranges and include only refrigerator and microwave setups, which may not meet every prospective resident’s expectations.

Management and operations show both strengths and weaknesses. Admissions, move-in support, and pandemic communication are frequently praised for being helpful and solutions-oriented. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent responsiveness from management, turnover among leadership or direct-care staff, and gaps in written documentation of services or financial policies. A few families cited limitations in the facility’s ability to provide higher-level rehab or immediate readmission after hospitalization; these are operational constraints to clarify in advance.

Overall, Anchor Bay appears to be a good fit for people who prioritize a socially active community with attentive, relationship-focused staff and attractive grounds. The most important caveats are operational consistency: prospective residents and their families should verify housekeeping schedules and standards, dietary accommodations, maintenance response expectations, staffing levels for the unit or care level of interest, and written service/financial agreements (including Medicaid or waiver guidance) during a tour. An in-person visit focused on those specifics will best determine whether the facility’s strengths align with an individual’s needs and expectations.

    About Anchor Bay at Pocasset

Anchor Bay at Pocasset sits on over 16 acres in a country-like setting, with gardens, walking paths, and outdoor seating for relaxing or strolling around when the weather's nice, and the two-story building lets in plenty of light with its high ceilings and big windows, so the apartments-which come as studios, one-bedrooms, or two-bedrooms-feel bright, open, and comfortable, with little touches like private balconies or patios, individual climate control, a kitchenette, and a microwave, and folks are encouraged to bring their own furniture to help them feel at home. The community allows pets, has guest and overnight parking options, and provides both scheduled and flexible transportation services for things like doctor appointments or trips to the Johnston Library, and you'll find convenient features like room service for meals, snacks and drinks all day, a bistro alongside a main dining room for chef-prepared food, and even guest meal options if family or friends stop by. Seniors living here can join in activities like bingo, happy hours, walking clubs, crafts, and church services, with a chapel, a movie theater, and a billiards room available, plus there's a library, beauty salon, game room, and garden for hobbies or relaxing. The place is set up to support many different needs, from independent living with social and fitness programs, to assisted living with help for bathing, dressing, meals, and medication, to specialized Memory Care with staff trained in dementia care, cueing, redirection, and behavior support, as well as therapy services like speech, physical, or occupational therapy, hospice care, and respite stays for short-term needs. Safety measures like controlled building access, emergency response systems, personal medical alerts, and regular wellness checks are standard, and staff receive ongoing training in first aid, mobility, chronic illnesses, medication management, and response for injury or trauma. The grounds offer both open and secured outdoor space, with accessible paths and outdoor gardens, and inside you'll find shared community kitchens, activity rooms, religious services, and a variety of organized events each week. All basic utilities-gas, electric, water-are included in the monthly rent, and Cox cable can be added for a small fee, along with laundry or beauty shop visits if needed. The community sits close to Rhode Island Hospital, major shops, parks, and restaurants, and welcomes visitors with flexible hours, so family and friends can come by as often as they like. Anchor Bay at Pocasset combines daily care, housekeeping, maintenance, and dining in a maintenance-free setup, so seniors can choose to live as independently as possible, get extra help as they need it, and spend more time building friendships and enjoying the activities they like the most.
