The Woodlands at Furman sits beside Furman University on 45 acres filled with green space and walking trails, and residents can go outside to enjoy the sun or spend time strolling or hiking, and can even play rounds of golf at the Furman University Golf Club, which is close by. Residents can use Furman University's Physical Activities Center (PAC) and join sporting events for a reduced price, including swimming in the PAC pool, which is a good choice for people who like to stay active or join in group activities. The community has a strong connection to Furman University, so residents can take part in college classes, lifelong learning programs, and cultural opportunities like classes through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), and they can also attend plays, concerts, and lectures on campus. There are many options for living arrangements, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, personal care, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation, so people don't have to move away if they need more help later, and a Life Care contract means a resident can stay even as care needs change, from independent living through to skilled nursing and memory care. The Woodlands at Furman is a not-for-profit, locally owned Life Plan Community that focuses on providing a secure and enriching lifestyle, using programs and spaces that help people stay active, fit, engaged, and connected, and staff work to provide immediate help if health needs change quickly. Residents can use rehabilitation therapy services and Medicare Part A-certified short-term skilled nursing and rehab stays, plus the Skilled Nursing program has a Medicare Five-Star rating, which says it meets good standards. Amenities aim to support purpose and happiness, and there are social and recreational activities, arts events, classes, group outings, and dining options on campus. The Woodlands at Furman tries to build a culture where residents can keep learning, find activities that are meaningful, and feel part of a friendly, stable community. It's won awards like "Best in the Upstate Community Choice Awards" in several categories, and the philosophy focuses on enrichment, art, culture, wellness, and chances to grow, all in a calm setting alongside Furman University.

Beautiful LifeCare campus, limited amenities
I toured/moved into The Woodlands and my overall impression is very positive. It's a beautiful, bright LifeCare campus with spacious villas, clean rooms, prompt maintenance, excellent medical care, and truly warm, attentive staff who remember names; the meals (Furman catering) and educational/cultural offerings (OLLI/lectures) are a real plus. It's expensive and there's a waitlist, but I feel it's worth it for the proximity to Furman and family, strong social opportunities when campus access returns, and the caring atmosphere. Downsides: limited independent-living amenities (no pool, fewer on-site activities), some COVID-related restrictions and occasional communication/value concerns-so I recommend touring in person and asking about current programming and availability.
