    Comfortable vintage facility; loving staff

I feel at ease here - a beautiful, vintage, homey facility that's spotless and odor-free. The staff are loving, kind, courteous and efficient; they make it feel like family and consistently go above and beyond while management keeps high standards and handles issues quickly. Overall I'm very pleased - a wonderful place with just a bit of room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Mountainview Nursing Home paint a mixed picture with clear strengths and recurring operational weaknesses. Several reviewers praised the facilityโ€™s warm, family-like atmosphere and many named individual caregivers as compassionate, kind, and willing to provide extra attention. Multiple comments describe clean, odor-free common areas and an attractive vintage character to the building. Administrative responsiveness and prompt handling of routine issues were noted positively in a number of accounts.

Care quality appears inconsistent. Some families described attentive nursing and a high standard of daily care, while others raised concerns about clinical oversight and responsiveness, including delays in assistance for basic needs and disagreements about staff roles and responsibilities. A serious event involving a residentโ€™s death prompted additional concerns about the facilityโ€™s clinical-incident response and the adequacy of family communication; this underscores variability in how the facility manages critical incidents and follows up with relatives.

Staffing and conduct are similarly mixed. Many reviews emphasize loving, courteous, and efficient direct-care workers and CNAs who create a positive environment. At the same time, other reviewers reported instances of rude or disrespectful behavior and inconsistent professionalism from some supervisors and contracted staff. The facilityโ€™s use of agency or contract personnel was mentioned as a factor that may disrupt continuity of care.

Facilities and maintenance issues are an important theme. The buildingโ€™s vintage character is appreciated by some, but others described needs for remodeling, small resident rooms, shower areas with limited ventilation, and specific sanitation and pest-control concerns in resident rooms. Activity programming has been limited at times โ€” partly attributed to pandemic-era restrictions โ€” and some families felt there was insufficient resident interaction or that visiting options were constrained.

Dining received little consistent comment in the available summaries; there are no strong, repeated patterns about food quality or meal service one way or the other. Management impressions are polarized: a number of reviewers praised strong management standards and cleanliness expectations, while others criticized supervisors for poor communication and last-minute scheduling decisions. Overall, the pattern is one of variability: the facility demonstrates clear strengths in caregiver compassion and certain facility attributes, but persistent operational issues (clinical oversight, communication, maintenance, pest-control, and staffing continuity) suggest that prospective families should conduct an in-person tour, ask specific questions about clinical staffing, pest control, incident response protocols, and activity schedules, and request recent inspection or staffing records before making placement decisions.

    About Mountainview Nursing Home

Mountainview Nursing Home serves older adults who need skilled nursing, day care, and intermediate care, and the staff handles pain management when folks need help with discomfort, so if someone needs to see a nurse every day or just some help with daily living, they'll find it here. The building's set up with features for elderly care like ramps and handrails, so moving around gets a bit easier, and the place's got amenities to support comfort, for example different menu options for meals, though there's nothing especially fancy or complicated about the setup. Residents can expect the staff to handle regular maintenance work and there's a social work department on site, so if someone needs guidance with planning or emotional support, there's someone to ask. Mountainview Nursing Home is funded through Medicare and Medicaid, which works for people on those programs, and they're connected with Community Services for the Aging, Inc., showing they're part of a larger network. There are community events during the year, like parties and sometimes a fishing trip, to give residents a break from their routines, though the activities aren't every day. The place is classified both as a nursing home and part of the Senior Care/Home Care category, with specialized care options for folks who need extra help, but they don't give detailed lists of what those are. There's a simple mailing address on Cedar Springs Road in Spartanburg, so getting mail or deliveries is straightforward, and the staff's available if families need to reach out by phone or email.
