    Caring, professional rehab with activities

I placed my mom here for rehab and have been very pleased. The nurses, CNAs, Jamie (LPN), Melanie (social worker) and DON are compassionate and professional; therapy helped her regain strength, activities (music groups, outings) are excellent, and housekeeping and meals are dependable. The facility is attractive and peaceful, administration and office staff are helpful - overall a very caring, patient-centered place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center presents a mixed picture in these reviews. Many families and short-term rehab patients praised the facility’s rehabilitation services, therapy staff, and certain members of the clinical team for attentive, effective care that supported recovery. The building, decor and therapy gym are frequently described as attractive and up-to-date, and activity programming — particularly music groups and off-site trips — is a consistent positive. Social work and some nursing staff receive specific commendation for helpfulness and communication, and several contributors described a caring, family-like atmosphere in portions of the facility.

Care quality and staffing are uneven across reviews. Positive accounts emphasize competent, compassionate nurses and CNAs, timely assistance, and strong physical-therapy support in short-term stays. Conversely, other accounts describe inconsistent staff conduct, delays in attending to resident needs, and concerns about how clinical orders are followed. There are multiple references to medication-management issues and instances where family members felt clinical directives (for example, diabetes or weight-bearing instructions) were not consistently implemented; these indicate gaps in clinical-adherence processes and handoff communication that families should review closely.

Dining and nutrition show variability. Some reviewers praised hearty meals and an engaged kitchen staff, while others described inconsistent food quality and problems with special-diet enforcement, including diabetes-related meal management. Practical feeding supports (such as offering alternative nutrition options or assistance opening drinks) and hydration monitoring are areas noted as needing clearer protocols. Therapy access is generally strong for short-term rehabilitation, but several reviewers indicated reduced therapy intensity or availability for long-term residents.

Facilities and operations are similarly mixed. The property is often described as clean, attractive, and well-decorated, but there are repeated notes of inconsistent sanitation in rooms and bathing areas, laundry and personal-item management problems, and occasional odor concerns in some common areas. Administrative issues include billing and insurance frustrations, lost or mishandled personal belongings, and scheduling instability linked to staff turnover. Infection-control and visitation policies were described as inconsistently enforced during pandemic-related restrictions, producing confusion for families.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: short-term rehab patients tend to report more consistently positive experiences, while long-term care experiences vary more widely. Key operational risks to probe before placement include staffing stability and turnover, formal medication-administration and diabetes-management protocols, bathing and incontinence-care procedures, transfer-and-shower safety practices, laundry and valuables procedures, and billing/insurance processes. Ask for written care plans, therapy schedules, concrete examples of how dietary restrictions are implemented, documentation of medication administration policies, and how the facility secures personal possessions during transitions. Overall, Hillview offers strong rehabilitation capabilities and several caring staff members, but the facility shows variability in day-to-day execution of clinical, hygiene, and administrative processes that families should verify during any placement decision.
