    Welcoming community with spacious cottages

I love living here - the staff are friendly and caring, residents are welcoming, and the community feels like family. My cottage is spacious with a nice kitchen and plenty of storage, and there are abundant activities, restaurant-quality meals, walking trails by the lake, garden beds, theater, gym and on-site health services. Transportation, safety, and a well-maintained, vibrant campus make it easy to enjoy life.

    Summary of reviews

Lake Forest Village is described as a large, scenic continuing‑care community set on roughly 80 acres with a private lake, walking trails, and multiple outdoor amenities such as raised garden beds and a community garden. Housing choices span cottages, duplexes and apartment units; reviewers consistently note spacious, well‑maintained living spaces and recent capital improvements including parking resurfacing, redecorated common spaces, upgraded homes and improved Wi‑Fi. The campus offers a broad range of on‑site amenities — theater, fitness center, libraries, arts studio, salon, chapel and a general store — that support an active, campus‑based lifestyle.

Staff and clinical services receive frequent praise for compassion, professionalism and tenure. Families and residents highlight a cohesive caregiving team, strong therapy services and effective physical therapy outcomes. Leadership at the executive and director‑of‑nursing level is commonly described as engaged, and the activities and lifestyle team is repeatedly called out for creating meaningful programming. At the same time, several reviewers described operational gaps that affect care reliability: limited around‑the‑clock clinical coverage, inconsistent responsiveness to mobility and transfer needs, and uneven discharge planning or transition support. There are also isolated concerns about staff conduct and communication tone; these appear as interpersonal and responsiveness issues rather than systemic descriptions of clinical competence.

Dining and activity life are prominent strengths. Many reviewers praise restaurant‑quality meals, an upgraded dining room and a broad calendar of events led by a noted activity director. Program variety and resident engagement are frequently cited as contributors to a strong community atmosphere. That said, activity availability has shown variability during public‑health disruptions, and a few residents wished for alternative seasonal or pandemic‑era contingencies.

Operational and amenity gaps noted by reviewers include sanitation and odor concerns in limited areas or furnishings, requests for clearer pricing and billing transparency, and the absence of certain recreational features such as a fenced dog park and aquatic amenities. The community is pet‑friendly but lacks specialized pet recreation space. For families prioritizing continuous on‑site medical coverage, the facility’s limited 24‑hour clinical staffing model is an area to clarify.

Overall, Lake Forest Village presents as a scenic, well‑appointed community with strong social programming, high‑quality dining and therapy, and a largely compassionate, long‑tenured staff. Prospective residents and families should tour the campus, review current staffing models and ask specific questions about mobility‑assistance protocols, discharge transition procedures, cleaning and maintenance standards, pet amenities, and detailed fee and billing practices before committing.

    About Lake Forest Village

Lake Forest Village sits on a quiet, 55-acre campus with tree-lined streets, a lakeside setting, spacious walking trails, and parks, and it feels a bit like living in the country, though shopping and medical offices are just minutes away, so people don't have to go far for errands or healthcare. This community offers many choices for older adults, like independent living options in casitas, cottages, duplexes, apartments, and twin homes, some with full kitchens, several floor plans from one to three bedrooms, and maintenance-free living where residents can decorate their places how they like. There are also assisted living services for folks who want to stay independent but need some help, with staff available 24/7 for things like grooming, laundry, medication management, and daily activities, and there's memory care for people who need extra support, all tailored to each person's needs so folks get personal care without losing their privacy or independence.

Lake Forest Village runs skilled nursing homes and offers intermediate care for those who need more medical support, including long-term care with 24-hour nursing and help with health checks using a Personal Health Button, plus Medicare-approved skilled nursing options. People recovering from hospital stays can get rehabilitation therapy-occupational, physical, and speech-with state-of-the-art equipment, all in a home-like setting aimed at keeping everyone comfortable and safe.

The grounds have a quiet, country-like atmosphere, with open outdoor spaces, serene walking trails, and a big lake for taking in the fresh air, and inside, the community is pet-friendly and completely handicap accessible, so everyone, whether they're residents or visitors, can get around easily. Most apartments and homes offer private living areas, some have kitchenettes, and there are on-site amenities like a full-service coffee bar in the social parlor, a gourmet dining room with chef-prepared meals, three meals a day, plus a general store, thrift shop, media center, well-stocked library, full-service salon and spa, and even a dynamic activity center where people can connect during events.

Lake Forest Village has a 5-Star CMS rating as of October 2024, and the staff put an emphasis on health and wellness for all residents, whether in independent living, assisted living, or long-term care, and they make sure everyone can join in on spiritual activities, with Bible studies and worship programs happening regularly. There are scheduled social events, wellness programs, arts, outings, and hobby groups that help people stay active in body and mind, and high-speed Wi-Fi, all utilities, basic cable, emergency response systems, and housekeeping come standard, along with transportation services and on-site parking with street lighting for added convenience.

People can take daily tours to see what it's really like, get a sense of the dining, activities, and atmosphere, and see how staff handle daily support and care. There's also a variety of services for those looking for home health, post-acute rehab, independent living with or without optional services, or even those who need only occasional help. The community encourages involvement through things like Leadership Denton, advocacy programs, Chamber Ambassadors, and regular celebration events, so everyone has a chance to participate and stay engaged. All these things help residents feel supported and cared for in a setting that feels safe, relaxing, and connected to nature, with plenty of activities, quality care, and opportunities to stay involved if they want.
