    Phenomenal staff, dated facility, worthwhile

I placed my mom here and overall I'm glad I did - the staff are phenomenal: caring, communicative, responsive, and they coordinate well with families and outside providers. Meals offer good variety, activities (bingo, games, parties) are regular, and the courtyard/grounds are a real plus; memory-care staff know dementia care and safety features give me peace of mind. The building is dated in places, can be musty, and needs a facelift (brighter memory areas, better parking and outdoor walking options). For us the excellent staff and quality of care outweighed the facility's shortcomings, but expect higher fees and occasional management/operations hiccups.

    About Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks

Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks is a senior living community that offers a lot of different care options, so people can get the help they need as their health changes, and you'll find services for independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, continuing care, and even at-home care, all on one campus, which makes it easier for folks who want to stay put as they get older. The place is set up with personal help for daily tasks like getting dressed, bathing, and managing medicine, and for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, there's specialized memory care programs, a secure setting, and activities that help keep people engaged and give them a sense of routine and safety, with staff on hand day and night to help out or respond to emergencies. The community is also wheelchair accessible, with showers and layouts that consider different mobility and health needs, and the apartments, which can be furnished or not, come as studios, alcoves, and suites, each with a kitchenette and private bathroom, and sizes ranging from around 240 to 361 square feet. Folks there eat three homemade meals every day, served restaurant-style in a dining room that's more comfortable than fancy, and there's a bistro for more social meals or snacks throughout the day, and you'll see people in the cozy library with a fireplace, in different activity rooms, or out in the gardens and on the walking paths or patios, just enjoying the outdoors. The grounds have an enclosed courtyard, gazebos, and landscaping that's nice for walks or sitting outside with friends, and there are common rooms and lounges for socializing, as well as a beauty and barber salon, a game room, and special places for events, plus the community is pet-friendly and equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, so people can stay connected to family or friends. People get a full schedule of things to do, with activities, classes, and outings that focus on wellness and keeping everyone involved, and there's transportation to local restaurants, entertainment, or other events, while devotional services happen off-site for those who are interested. For families or caregivers who need a break, respite care is offered for short stays, and hospice help is available for folks who need that level of care. There's a focus on health and safety, as well as services like emergency call systems in rooms, so residents can feel secure, and a director of community data oversees things to help maintain quality. Signature programs, educational resources, and support tools are in place for residents and their families, and the campus welcomes tours for folks wanting to see daily life there. Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks is part of Brookdale Senior Living, which means residents get access to established practices and a range of resources meant for older adults, and while no community is perfect, the mix of care types, activities, and amenities here does fit people who want a safe, social, and supportive place as their needs change through the years.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
