    Compassionate Alzheimer's care and rehabilitation

I placed my mom at Hewitt Nursing & Rehabilitation and was very pleased - they specialize in Alzheimer's/dementia and have trained, compassionate staff (multiple RNs, attentive nurses and therapists) who worked closely with our family. The facility is clean and inviting, with private rooms, nutritious meals, strong rehab that helped her return home, and lots of social activities and game nights residents enjoy. Administration and nursing communicated well, staff went out of their way for us, and I recommend this caring, professional team.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews describe a facility with notable strengths in rehabilitation services, a welcoming physical environment, and many individual staff members who provide compassionate care. The building and many rooms are described as clean, bright, and recently updated; common areas and visitor amenities contribute to a home-like atmosphere. Physical and occupational therapy teams receive consistently strong praise for helping residents return home, and an active activities program (music, Bingo, clubs, and community events) is a prominent positive feature.

Care quality and nursing: Families and residents often praise individual nurses and aides for attentiveness and kindness; several named staff are highlighted as particularly helpful. At the same time, a persistent pattern emerges around inconsistent clinical care. Key concerns include medication-administration errors and lapses, delayed responses to call lights, uneven wound and feeding-tube care, and intermittent clinical oversight. These patterns have, in some accounts, led to hospital transfers and regulatory complaints. While some stays are described as medically attentive with regular physician involvement, other accounts note infrequent clinician rounds and gaps in follow-up care.

Staffing, training, and conduct: A recurring theme is staffing variability. Reviewers report periods of adequate coverage with engaged staff and other periods marked by understaffing, long waits for assistance, and staff distraction. Language-capability gaps and inconsistent training are reported as contributors to communication problems and care-quality variability. There are also more serious allegations concerning property loss and medical-record handling; such claims have prompted family complaints and escalation to external oversight in some instances.

Dining and activities: Dining receives generally favorable comments for taste and variety, with several families noting well-seasoned meals and multiple choices. A minority of comments describe meal-service interruptions or quality lapses. The activities program is widely praised for providing meaningful engagement—regular music, games, and community interactions are cited as important contributors to resident quality of life.

Facilities and operations: The facility is commonly described as attractive, well-maintained, and comfortable, with modern furnishings and private-room options. That said, maintenance and housekeeping performance appears inconsistent in places: some reviewers note timely upkeep while others describe missed housekeeping tasks, delayed maintenance requests, and occasional sanitation concerns in specific units. Discharge coordination and equipment delivery are identified as operational areas needing improvement; families report instances where supplies, transportation, or paperwork were not arranged promptly.

Management and communication: Admissions and front-desk staff, along with certain social-work personnel, are frequently commended for professionalism and helpfulness. Conversely, reviewers also describe uneven leadership responsiveness and defensive communication when concerns are raised. Billing and payment-collection practices are a recurrent source of family frustration. Several families escalated issues to regulatory or ombudsman channels, reflecting gaps in local complaint resolution.

Notable patterns for prospective families: The facility demonstrates clear strengths for short-term rehabilitation and for residents who can participate in therapies and activities. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong therapy and engagement offerings against documented variability in staffing, clinical consistency, and operational controls. Asking specific questions about staffing ratios for the anticipated unit, medication-safety protocols, discharge logistics, property-inventory procedures, and language or training supports can help families assess fit. For residents with complex medical needs or limited ability to communicate, families may want to confirm clinical oversight frequency and escalation processes before admission.

The place provides skilled nursing, memory care, assisted living, and independent living services, and you can get respite or long-term care here too, with support for those working on recovery or staying for the long haul, and it does try to tailor its services to what each person needs, whether that's more medical help or support with daily tasks. The facility uses several named programs, especially for nursing and rehabilitation, as it emphasizes helping each resident recover and keep as much independence as possible, with support available for harder days or aims at more freedom, though every place has its struggles, and this one's had violations reported, including concerns over pharmaceutical licensing, abuse and protection standards, and care for residents with bowel or bladder needs, with 28 deficiencies total and 4 infection-related ones listed in government inspection reports, so those are things to consider.
