    Spotless home with caring staff

I placed my dad here and have been very pleased - the place is spotless, homey and small, and the nurses/CNAs and caregivers are caring, responsive, and communicative. Meals are good with generous portions and choices, there's a robust activity calendar, and overall the care and staff are excellent; I'd recommend Heritage to families seeking a compassionate, well-run community.

    Summary of reviews

Heritage Senior Living at Oakwood Hills is described overall as a small, well‑maintained, single‑floor community with a home‑like atmosphere and a strong emphasis on personalized social engagement. Families consistently praise the caregiving team for being compassionate, attentive and communicative; nursing staff and CNAs are frequently described as knowledgeable and responsive, with proactive updates to families and individualized adjustments to care when needs change. The facility’s small scale and community feel are repeatedly noted as strengths that contribute to resident comfort and socialization.

Dining and activities are prominent strengths in the reviews. Many families highlighted a varied activities calendar that includes exercise classes, outings, music, socials, seasonal events, and religious services, plus on‑site pastimes such as puzzles, bingo and beauty‑shop services. These programs are credited with keeping residents engaged and socially active. Meals are commonly described as high quality with multiple choices per meal and generous portions; dining service and the dining room setup are also favorably mentioned. A minority of accounts describe inconsistent food quality or disruptions after kitchen staffing changes, suggesting some variability tied to personnel turnover.

Facility condition and amenities receive largely positive comments: spaces are kept clean and well maintained, apartments are described as bright and homey, and the single‑floor layout is helpful for mobility. The community’s size supports a close, family‑like culture, and staff-to-resident interactions are often characterized as friendly and familiar. On the clinical side, reviewers indicate the staff will adjust care plans to address incidents such as falls and that nursing oversight is attentive; however, falls have occurred, prompting care changes, which suggests an area for ongoing focus on fall‑prevention protocols.

Notable operational limitations emerge as recurring themes. The community does not appear equipped for advanced dementia care or residents requiring heavy transfer assistance, and several reviewers state it is not appropriate for high‑acuity needs. Some families noted intermittent staffing shortages (exacerbated at times by pandemic conditions) that affected timeliness of personal‑care tasks and follow‑through on non‑clinical requests such as dressing or laundry. There is also some variability in staff initiative and responsiveness under certain circumstances. Cost and payer limitations are practical considerations: the facility can be relatively costly for some families and has limited Medicaid acceptance.

In summary, Heritage Senior Living at Oakwood Hills presents a strong option for residents seeking a small, community‑oriented setting with active programming, good dining, and attentive nursing and caregiver staff. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against the facility’s limited capacity for advanced dementia or high‑acuity transfer needs, potential for intermittent staffing shortfalls, and payer/affordability constraints. For individuals whose primary needs are social engagement, assistance with daily activities, and consistent nursing oversight rather than high‑level medical or lift‑transfer care, the community appears to offer a supportive and well maintained environment.

About Heritage Senior Living at Oakwood Hills

Heritage Senior Living At Oakwood Hills offers a comfortable place for seniors who want a little extra help. The building has 39 apartments in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts. Each unit has a kitchenette, a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, and space for personal storage, so residents have privacy and comfort. The community is easy to move around in, with wide hallways and a simple one-level design that helps everyone get where they need to go. There's plenty of natural light, large community rooms with lots of seating, a pub for socializing, and even a garden where residents can spend time outdoors.

Assisted living and memory care services are available. Trained staff are always there, day or night, to help with daily needs like bathing, dressing, and making sure people get their medicine on time. Nurses and caregivers learn residents' names and make the place feel welcoming. The community runs an individualized evaluation program so each person gets care that fits their needs. Those who need extra support for memory loss get tailored help, activities designed to keep them engaged, and safe spaces so they don't get confused or wander off, helped by specially trained staff. There are up to 28 hours of personalized care each week and a full-time licensed nurse on site. Staff get ongoing training, and every resident has an emergency call pendant.

The dining room serves fresh nutritious meals every day in a restaurant-style setting, and there are open-concept and private dining areas, plus a sunroom for activities. Housekeeping and laundry keep things tidy, while outings, social events, fitness programs, and hobbies make life interesting. Residents can join in things like exercise, games, spiritual services, and even intergenerational events, or try special classes like making charcuterie boards with the Executive Chef. Heritage Senior Living At Oakwood Hills is pet-friendly, so residents can have their small companions with them. Community spaces look and feel friendly, caring, and like someone's home to support aging with dignity and independence.

Health services include skilled nursing and physical therapy. For those living at home, there's home care help from trained aides. Residents who can live on their own have independent living choices here, where staff provides meals, cleaning, and a lively social environment, but not medical care. Amenities like salon services, a spa room with a tub and walk-in shower, outdoor sitting and dining, full-service laundry, a dedicated respite room, and mobility support help everyone feel safe and comfortable. The community encourages independence but is always ready to step in with care. Heritage Senior Living At Oakwood Hills is licensed by the state of Wisconsin, and staff strive to make each person feel valued, respected, and at home. Tours are available for anyone who wants to see daily life, join a meal, or learn more about activities.
