    Warm attentive staff, excellent services

I moved my mom here and we've been very pleased. The staff is warm, attentive and went out of their way, the facility is clean, bright and home-like, and the meals and activity program are excellent. Move-in was smooth and supportive - I'd recommend touring this community.

    Summary of reviews

Oakwood Hills – Sky Active Living presents a mixed but largely social and service-oriented environment. Many families and residents praise the staff as compassionate, personable, and welcoming; multiple reviewers singled out directors and individual caregivers for strong follow-through during touring, move-in, and bereavement support. The community offers a range of care levels including independent living and on-site nursing, and several reviewers found the staffing culture to be family-like and attentive when coverage and leadership were stable.

Dining and activities are core strengths. The community provides three meals daily with snacks, a senior-focused kitchen and buffet/dining-room service, and reviewers frequently commended the food and the presence of a senior chef. At the same time, there are recurring notes about variability in meal quality, occasional kitchen-safety concerns, and long dining-service times; prospective residents should ask about current kitchen staffing and service patterns. The activity program is broad and active — regular music, card games, exercise classes, holiday events, outings, and resident-led opportunities are commonly highlighted as important contributors to residents’ social well-being.

Facility amenities receive positive comments for cleanliness, natural light, garden spaces, and multiple communal rooms including a library and exercise area. Apartment options are varied, ranging from studios to two-bedroom units with patios and ground-floor options. However, reviewers also point to aging components and maintenance needs in places: carpeting, appliances, handrails, and exterior walkways were cited as items needing repair. Elevator capacity and a walking-focused layout were noted as potential mobility limitations for some residents.

Two operational themes recur across reviews: staffing stability and management consistency. Many residents report dependable, loving day-to-day caregivers and responsive directors; others describe a decline after ownership or management changes, characterized by understaffing (including housekeeping and transportation roles), delayed repairs, and uneven administrative responsiveness. These patterns have led to inconsistencies in housekeeping delivery, transportation availability for appointments and outings, and occasional billing or contract disputes. There are also reports implying gaps when residents require higher-acuity services or overnight clinical coverage; families should confirm care-level limits and escalation processes before committing.

In summary, Oakwood Hills is frequently described as a warm, activity-rich community with strong social engagement, appealing grounds, and many staff members who provide compassionate care. Offsetting strengths are operational inconsistencies tied to staffing, maintenance, meal-service reliability, and administrative/accounting practices that have varied over time. Prospective residents and their families would benefit from an in-person tour, direct questions about current staffing ratios, housekeeping schedules, transportation services, 24-hour clinical coverage, recent maintenance activity, and clear contract/billing terms to ensure the community’s present operations meet their expectations.

About Oakwood Hills - Sky Active Living

Oakwood Hills - Sky Active Living sits at 4316 Oakwood Hills Parkway in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, right by the Oakwood Hills Mall and close to healthcare, so folks don't have to travel far for what they need, and this community is shaped for seniors 55 and older who want some independence but could use a helping hand as their needs change, so there's assisted living, memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, home care if someone wants extra support at home, and skilled nursing on site for higher care, plus respite stays if someone only needs to be there a short time, and it tends to suit different budgets with affordable housing, so a person could use things like VA benefits or assets from a house sale, making it easier to stay comfortable. The setup's all about activity and community, with a big campus mixing a peaceful natural setting-where you might spot deer, rabbits, or hawks-with the busyness of nearby city life, and residents wander paved walkways through gardens and lawns, maybe take a rest on a porch swing, or head inside for a billiards game, cards in the game area, or movies in the media room, and folks can chat with friends in the library with big windows, in a spacious lounge, or work up a sweat at a modern gym. Apartments come in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom layouts, with patios, sleeping areas, private bathrooms, kitchenette set-ups, and everything is wheelchair-accessible, with laundry rooms handy, and they let you bring a pet along, so it feels more like home. Amenities cover most modern needs-utilities, phone, cable, Wi-Fi-and there's parking for residents with cars, while the beauty salon, BBQ areas, and guest suite for overnight family visits help round out daily living. Organized activities happen often, so you'll see fitness classes, card groups, and community-run events, with staff and resident volunteers keeping everyone as engaged as they'd like. Safety features include 24-hour supervision, emergency alerts, smoke detectors, and sprinklers. Dining is served in spacious rooms set just for the residents, and you'll find little extras like music or lounge spaces, as well as a grand lobby decorated with greenery and comfy chairs. This place scores high with reviewers, who tend to mention the friendly vibe, good food, and active schedule, and Sonida Senior Living runs the community, so there's experience behind the scenes with care staffing and support services. Someone can expect memory care that guards against wandering, with routines to ease anxiety and help keep the mind active, and assisted living covers help with things like bathing, dressing, or medications, so seniors can focus on life without getting bogged down by stress. There's also guidance on planning care as your situation changes, so a resident doesn't have to leave their home community as needs shift, since continuing care allows for a gradual step up in support while staying in familiar surroundings. Oakwood Hills - Sky Active Living is set up for comfort, activity, and peace of mind, with enough variety to match most seniors' routines and preferences, without extra fuss, just the right services and a welcoming place to call home.
