Tidd Home Inc sat in a historical mansion at 74 Elm St. in Woburn, MA, serving older adults for over 130 years, mostly women at first, then men after 2006, and you'd find it right near old churches, parks, and cafes if you went out for a walk, with eight restaurants close by and three physicians nearby for any medical needs, plus seven pharmacies within reach and plenty of church and historic landmarks all around. The place belonged to the category of a Residential Care Home and also fit the guidelines for a health care facility. Those living there had private rooms, some with kitchens or kitchenettes, washers and dryers, their own bathrooms, and things like cable TV, housekeeping, and even a sprinkler system for safety, since the building's always been careful about updates, doing renovations in 1970 and again in 2005 to grow and improve the living space. Meals and dining were provided right onsite, with a big dining room, while activities filled the game and arts and crafts rooms, and there was a fitness center, salon and barbershop, and comfy sunrooms and media rooms, as well as a library where you could sit and read or just chat with folks. The staff included people trained in elder care, offering all sorts of help from medication management to daily wellness checks, podiatry, and support with memory care, hospice, independent living, and skilled nursing, as well as assisted living services tailored to what each resident needed. Tidd Home allowed pets and offered complimentary transportation, helping residents get out for errands or just enjoy the town. Social programs, health and wellness activities, and education workshops were always on the schedule, so people kept busy if they wanted. The place didn't allow smoking inside, and it had safety features for getting around like handrails and handicap-accessible areas. Families felt welcome over the years, and many saw Tidd Home as an important fixture in Woburn's senior community for generations. After closing in 2017, Tidd Home transferred its assets, including proceeds from sales, to the Cummings Foundation, so its mission to help Woburn's seniors would continue. The home also gave nearly $1 million to New Horizons at Choate, another not-for-profit retirement community in town, and though Tidd Home itself is no longer open, its legacy continues through the support of seniors in Woburn.
