Epic House

Epic House sits in Cincinnati, Ohio and has been around since 1989, founded by the Dominican Sisters of Hope, and functions as a non-profit, so it's really there to help low-income older adults who can't live alone safely but still want some independence, and it mainly takes in folks over 60 who are physically frail or have trouble with daily tasks, so you've got shared living spaces where everyone has a private bedroom and bath-there are spots for up to ten people now-and the staff is around 24 hours a day to help with cooking, cleaning, laundry, medication, and getting ready for medical appointments, and they'll even set up transport for trips to the doctor or the store. Meals come three times a day in a family-style dining room and everyone eats together, so there's a nice sense of community, and there's actually an active group of volunteers and local UC students who visit to keep residents engaged and supported, which kind of gives things the feeling of a real family home rather than an institution. Residents can expect their physical, psychological, and social needs to be met here, with plenty of activities, outdoor spaces, and even therapy services if needed, plus help with managing medications and other personal care, and the staff really tries to make sure everyone keeps some control over their daily lives while getting help only when it's needed. The place accepts both men and women, allows pets, and follows state rules for residential care homes, and it really focuses on creating a respectful, safe, and supportive environment, all while keeping things affordable for those who might not have a lot of money.
