    About First Village

First Village, once called Cathedral Manors and before that First and Second Village, is a non-profit community for seniors and disabled people that tries to make affordable housing for those in need, so you've got apartments with either no bedroom or one bedroom, and the rent depends on your gross income with everything following HUD limits, and when you move in you'll see there's wall-to-wall carpeting, handicap access, parking outside, and heat and hot water already paid for, which takes a load off. Residents get professional on-site management, laundry rooms, easy building access, and folks say staff members here are known for being helpful, joyful, and kind so people feel welcome. The place offers senior apartments and living options like independent living if you don't need much help, assisted living if you need help with things like bathing, dressing, or your medications, and memory care if Alzheimer's or dementia has made daily life a little harder since care there aims to reduce confusion and help prevent wandering; plus there are therapies and activities-you've got social, physical, mental, and emotional activities planned to keep everyone engaged and active most days, though people can opt out if they want a quieter afternoon. Home care comes from trained aides offering companionship and non-medical help right in your apartment, and there are housekeeping and laundry services too, so folks who can't or don't want to manage those things don't have to. Seniors here can have cats, as the community lets you keep your pet with you, and meals are served once or twice a day with chefs and meal planners making sure they're nutritious and use good ingredients. On top of that, First Village provides resources for seniors like long-term care insurance, legal services, transportation to appointments, home-delivered meals, medical supplies, and on-site or home medical services, and for those who need it, you can get hospice care. The place puts a lot of focus on community, safety, and making sure people have support whether they need just a little help or more hands-on care, and there's continuing care-a CCRC setup-so folks don't have to leave if their needs change. Staff try to give care that fits each person, and residents get programs for physical and emotional well-being. Overall, First Village aims to be a safe, inclusive home where people feel respected and connections with others are encouraged, even if it's just over a cup of coffee or a shared meal in the dining room.
