    Comfortable, secure independent living community

I'm very happy with my stepmother's placement at DeSoto. The renovated building looks nice, the manager is kind, and 24/7 front desk plus responsive maintenance made me feel secure-especially during storms. She's comfortable in her independent-living studio/one-bedroom with the freedom to cook, and the campus has a lovely library/puzzle area and a large rec room for social events. My family and I love DeSoto and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

De Soto Towers is an independent-living community primarily serving residents aged 62 and older. Physically the building receives positive notes: multiple reviewers described recent renovations, well-maintained common areas, and attractive outdoor amenities such as a gazebo by the water. Apartment offerings are basic — studios and small one-bedroom units — and the facility positions itself as budget-friendly; one reviewer cited an all-utilities-included price point of $500 per month. The property includes practical on-site resources like a 24/7 staffed front desk, an available maintenance team, a library/puzzle area, and a large recreation room used for social events.

Care and daily living features align with independent-living expectations. There is no formal dining program on site, and residents are expected to prepare their own meals. Families generally found the placement reassuring for relatives who need minimal assistance, and safety measures (including storm-related procedures and continuous front-desk staffing) were described as strengths. The community layout and shared spaces support socializing when programming is offered.

Staff impressions are mixed. Several comments praised individual staff members and the convenience of around-the-clock desk coverage and responsive maintenance. However, there are also concerns about staff conduct and communication tone that families should consider when touring. Reviewers described uneven responsiveness to certain resident concerns; this appears to reflect variability in how management handles complaints and follows through on remediation.

Activities and engagement appear inconsistent. The facility has spaces conducive to programming — a large rec room and social areas — and some families reported active use of those areas. Other comments indicated a lack of scheduled activities, suggesting programming may be limited or irregular rather than comprehensive.

Sanitation and pest control emerged as a recurring issue. Multiple reviewers raised pest-control concerns within living units and expressed dissatisfaction with the timeliness and completeness of remediation efforts. These remarks included reports of one-off treatments rather than building-wide remediation, and some reviewers indicated regulatory involvement was pursued. Prospective residents and families should ask management for recent pest-control records and the facility’s standard operating procedures for remediation during tours.

In summary, De Soto Towers offers an affordable independent-living option with renovated common areas, useful on-site services, and a waterfront setting. Strengths include continuous front-desk staffing, maintenance availability, and community spaces that can support social life. Key operational concerns are limited apartment variety and small unit sizes, the absence of a communal dining program, inconsistent activity offerings, and notable issues around pest control and complaint resolution. Those considering this community should balance the cost and physical amenities against these operational weaknesses, and verify current management policies, pest-control history, and activity schedules during an in-person visit.
