Expert Care for Complex Needs in a Real Home
Alpine House is a small, high-touch residential care home in Southwest Portland specializing in **long-term care for seniors with complex medical, cognitive, and mobility needs**.
Since 1996, Alpine House has provided experienced, individualized care in a real residential setting. We offer an alternative for families who need more support and clinical capability than conventional senior living may be able to provide, but who still want their loved one to live in the familiarity, dignity, and comfort of a real home.
Our small setting and high caregiver-to-resident ratio allow us to provide close supervision, individualized attention, and continuity of care. Caregivers have the time to know each resident—their routines, preferences, abilities, medical needs, and the subtle changes that can be important to their well-being.
Alpine House has extensive experience caring for seniors with complex chronic conditions and changing care needs, including Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, Parkinson's disease, stroke, congestive heart failure, COPD, brittle diabetes, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, significant mobility limitations, fall risk, and incontinence.
We are also experienced with *higher-level care* needs and skilled tasks that can appropriately be managed in a small residential setting, including medication management, blood-sugar monitoring, injections, complex wound care, bowel programs, enteral feeding, ostomy and colostomy care, tracheostomy care, transfers, mobility assistance, and extensive assistance with activities of daily living.
Residents receive true 24-hour care and supervision.
*High-Touch Care Without an Institutional Environment: Complex care does not have to feel institutional.
Residents have private bedrooms that they can personalize with their own furniture, belongings, colors, and familiar objects. The home is quiet and spacious, with wide, well-lit hallways and accommodations for mobility and medical equipment.
Private rooms overlook a large, peaceful backyard and landscaped English gardens.
The small number of residents allows caregivers to know residents and their families personally while preserving privacy, independence, dignity, and individual routines.
*** Long-Term Care Is Our Specialty***
Alpine House specializes in **long-term, high-acuity residential care**.
We are particularly well suited for families whose loved one has become difficult to place because their needs are too complex, too individualized, or require more attention than is practical in a large senior-living environment, like an Assisted Living Facility or a Memory Care/Dementia Unit. We are also well suited after Rehabilitation discharge to continue the progress made on the Skilled Nursing Home, but in an attentive residential environment.
**Alpine House does not provide post-acute surgical rehabilitation or short-stay respite care.** We are designed for residents who need a long-term home with experienced caregivers capable of supporting complex and evolving needs.
For families looking beyond the traditional choice between a large senior-care facility and care at home, Alpine House offers something different:
**Expert care for complex needs—in a real home, where people know and care about each other!**
Alpine House in SW Portland has served seniors with skill and care since 1996, staying licensed and inspected each year, and for 27 years hasn't had any deficiencies, which says a lot about how the place's run, and it's managed by Joana Olaru and her attention to detail and staffing quality.
The home has a focus on seniors with higher care needs, providing true 24-hour care in a small, real family home setting, with high caregiver to guests ratio -so supervision and help is always close and there's time to get to know each person and their family; that creates a warm environment where people can truly feel at home and decorate their own rooms, choosing colors and furniture, and look out over a peaceful, large backyard , and manicured English gardens , from their private bedrooms, all while having privacy, safety, and full accommodation for mobility or medical equipment.
Alpine House is a licensed Class III Adult Foster Care Home and fits 8 or fewer residents, focusing on offering a homier alternative to larger nursing homes or memory care centers, so everything's on a smaller scale and calmer side, and people feel like they belong with each other.
Alpine House staff is extremely well trained and stable.
Monthly rates for residential or memory care range from $9,900 to $15,000, and the facility accepts long-term care insurance, which can help families budget.
