    Clean, caring staff; home-like atmosphere

I placed my father at Windcrest and found a clean, elegant, well-maintained facility with genuinely caring, professional staff - excellent nurses, therapists and activities, strong discharge support, and a welcoming, home-like atmosphere with an open central gathering area. I felt he was well cared for and would choose Windcrest again.

    Summary of reviews

Windcrest Health & Rehabilitation elicits a mixed but distinct pattern of strengths and operational weaknesses. Many families describe a warm, home-like facility with an open central-gathering layout and private-room ambiance. The building and common areas are frequently characterized as clean and well maintained, with pleasant dining aromas and a generally comfortable interior. The facility is also repeatedly praised for its organized approach to care levels, discharge planning, and access to rehabilitation services.

Care and staffing are two areas with divergent accounts. Positive accounts emphasize friendly, personable staff who provide gentle, dignified care; specific staff roles such as nurses, therapists, activity staff, and the social worker receive commendation for compassion, responsiveness, and family communication. The rehabilitation program and activity offerings are often highlighted as strengths, with an active schedule and staff who engage residents. Administrative and office staff also receive positive mention for helpfulness and coordination, and transportation services are described as cordial and dependable.

Counterbalancing those positives are recurring operational concerns. Reviewers described inconsistent responsiveness from caregiving staff, including delays in attending to personal-care needs and variability in bathing/incontinence routines. Relatedly, there are reports of lapses in medication timing and administration. Housekeeping and sanitation practices were sometimes described as inconsistent, with a few accounts indicating maintenance or cleaning tasks were not completed promptly. Several reviews raised serious concerns about missing personal items; these have been framed as allegations of inadequate property tracking. Staffing variability and occasional understaffing appear to contribute to these service gaps.

Management and communication present a similar split. Some families praise strong discharge support and collaborative communication, while others reported difficulty obtaining managerial contacts, inconsistent follow-up on concerns, and delays in admissions or transfers. Those patterns suggest uneven accountability and variable incident-response practices across shifts or units.

For prospective residents and families, the salient pattern is a facility with notable interpersonal strengthsโ€”compassionate caregivers, an engaged therapy program, and an inviting physical environmentโ€”paired with operational inconsistencies in personal-care routines, medication timing, housekeeping, property tracking, and staffing stability. Those trade-offs mean that outcomes may depend substantially on unit-level staffing and management responsiveness; families considering Windcrest may benefit from asking specific questions about incontinence-care protocols, medication-administration safeguards, property-accountability procedures, staff-to-resident ratios by shift, and the facility's incident-response and escalation pathways.

    About Windcrest Health & Rehabilitation

Windcrest Health & Rehabilitation is a medium-sized care facility with a capacity of 120 beds, operating under a for-profit, corporate ownership structure. This center serves individuals who require both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care, earning average ratings in both categories based on recent assessments. Residents at Windcrest Health & Rehabilitation are supported by a team of dedicated staff, delivering an average of three hours and thirty-three minutes of nurse staffing per patient each day. The facility maintains a consistent level of staffing across weekends and weekdays, ensuring continuity of care for residents who depend on daily assistance with medical and non-medical needs such as medication management, dressing, eating, and mobility.

The center participates in both Medicare and Medicaid, providing options for payment and coverage for qualifying individuals seeking rehabilitation after hospitalization or those needing extended care. Nearly half of the residents admitted for short-term rehabilitation are able to return home after their stay, while others benefit from ongoing support within the community. Windcrest Health & Rehabilitation places a high priority on resident safety and health, as demonstrated by high vaccination rates and efforts to prevent serious events, although the facility has faced challenges such as a small percentage of falls resulting in injury or infections requiring hospitalization. Rates of emergency room visits among short-term residents also reflect the complexities of care often encountered in such environments.

Windcrest Health & Rehabilitation is not part of a continuing care retirement community, focusing instead on meeting the distinct needs of its residents through individualized care plans. The facility offers specialized services for those recovering from medical events such as strokes, heart attacks, infections, or injuries, and supports residents in their ability to maintain independence with activities of daily living. The center is regularly inspected for health, fire, and safety standards, working to provide a secure and comfortable environment for all who reside there. Incidents in recent years have included a handful of deficiencies related to care planning, treatment in accordance with resident preferences, supervision to prevent accidents, medication management, and food service, with all issues subsequently addressed by the facility.

Windcrest Health & Rehabilitation's commitment to resident well-being is further reflected by routine health measures such as a 100% annual influenza vaccination rate among residents. The centerโ€™s staffing approach and quality assurance efforts underscore its emphasis on balancing safety, support, and the potential for residents to regain or retain independence.
