    Caring staff but inconsistent care

I appreciate the warm, caring staff, homey atmosphere, regular activities, good food, clean grounds and memory-care support (NP visits weekly) - it feels family-like and safe. However the apartments are small and expensive, and I've seen worrying staffing/management problems (missed meds, poor communication and occasional neglect), so I'd recommend with caution.

    About Brookdale Peoria

Brookdale Peoria sits in Peoria, Arizona, offering assisted living, independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, continuing care retirement communities, and at-home care, so there's a lot on site and folks can get what they need without leaving if their needs change, which is better than having to move around all the time, and the staff handles everything from daily care and supervision to companionship and help with getting around for those who need it. The facility includes several types of living arrangements, like private rooms-even a master bedroom with its own bathroom-and it's designed for comfort and accessibility, so there are wide hallways, handrails, a welcoming porch with seating, wheelchair accessibility, and Wi-Fi throughout the building, and they want everyone to feel at home and keep their dignity and independence. Every resident gets care suited to their needs, whether it's help with dressing, bathing, managing medications, or household chores, and there's always someone around, including registered nurses managing care, along with aides and caregivers, who are trained and friendly. The community includes about 103 licensed beds at the larger assisted living center, though the assisted living home is licensed for 5 residents, and both are audited by the Arizona Department of Health Services, so things are regulated, and the facilities are kept to certain standards.

Meals are home-cooked and planned to be healthy, going easy on salt and sugar, and high in fiber, with snacks during the day, if someone gets hungry in between times, and the dining room is set up with soft lighting and wood-style flooring to make meals more comfortable, so it doesn't feel like a cafeteria. Activities and events fill every day, with daily planned activities, games like in common areas, a piano for music, and TV in the resident lounge, plus there are fitness classes, outings, and wellness programs to keep bodies and brains active, along with educational programs that try to keep folks learning. Some of the best parts are the welcoming front porch with a "Welcome to Our Porch" sign, landscaped grounds, sunrooms and lounges with big windows and lots of sunlight, so folks can enjoy the outdoors or just sit with others. The whole place is pet-friendly, so if residents have a small dog or cat, they can feel more at home, and all areas are accessible no matter the level of mobility.

Brookdale Peoria offers behavioral health services, including behavioral health residential programs for adults, and specialized memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, with routines and therapies aimed at making things easier, preventing wandering, and reducing confusion. Services cover everything from personal care, like bathing, eating, and moving around, to supervised care, and adult day healthcare or foster care options for those who don't need full-time living but still need help and want social time. There's housekeeping and maintenance included, Wi-Fi/high-speed internet for residents to be connected, and plenty of social activities to encourage friendships, and the goal is to create a homelike setting where everyone feels like family and isn't just left alone.

The staff work hard to support independence and dignity, whether that means helping with daily tasks or encouraging residents to join in group activities, and every program or service tries to fit the wishes and interests of the person living there. Brookdale Peoria runs like a neighborhood, with both privacy in personal rooms and shared spaces for company, and overall, it suits seniors with many different needs, whether they're looking for assisted living, memory care, or simply want a friendly, well-kept place to live around others their age.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale Peoria is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
