    Exceptional attentive staff and care

I highly recommend Pierce Memorial Baptist Home. The staff were exceptional-attentive nurses and CNAs (Gloria) and caring support like Michele provided consistent rehab and medical monitoring, delicious meals, clear communication, and dignified, affectionate care that made my parent feel loved.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The facility demonstrates clear strengths in clinical rehabilitation, hands-on nursing care, and recent physical upgrades, but also exhibits operational and administrative gaps that prospective residents and families should evaluate. Many reviewers describe attentive direct-care staff and robust therapy services, while others raised concerns about staffing consistency, communication, and administrative follow-through.

Care quality and staff: Multiple comments highlight compassionate, conscientious nursing and CNA interactions, with specific praise for proactive monitoring (for example, blood-pressure checks with medication adjustments) and daily physical/occupational/speech therapy that supports recovery-focused stays. Reviewers also described dignified, family-centered end-of-life care and careful clinical note-keeping. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent staffing levels, uneven communication from nursing staff, and occasional issues with staff tone and professionalism. Families who value regular updates and consistent staff assignments should seek clarity on staffing patterns and communication protocols during a tour.

Dining and activities: The facility's dining received positive remarks for appealing meals and dessert options. Family-oriented programming โ€” such as seasonal events that allow multi-generational participation โ€” was noted as a meaningful quality-of-life feature. These elements appear to complement the rehabilitation focus and contribute to a comfortable recovery environment for many residents.

Facilities and environment: Recent renovations were described as substantially improving accommodations and resident satisfaction. Housekeeping and environmental services were mentioned positively for friendliness and attentiveness. Prospective residents should confirm which units were renovated and inspect room layouts and common areas to verify that the upgrades match their expectations.

Management, administration, and notable patterns: Strengths include careful clinical documentation and helpful discharge information. However, reviewers also pointed to operational weaknesses: gaps in clinical-incident response and family communication, administrative follow-through problems (including issues with post-mortem procedures), and limited payer acceptance because the facility does not take certain state health insurance. There are also comments alluding to potential infection-control or public-health incident concerns; given the seriousness of such matters, families may wish to ask management about recent infection-control audits, incident disclosure policies, and any external investigations or corrective actions.

Recommendations for families: If the facility's rehabilitation strengths and recent renovations align with your priorities, consider an in-person visit that includes: (1) meeting direct-care staff and asking about typical staffing ratios and staff turnover, (2) reviewing clinical incident reporting and infection-control policies, (3) confirming insurance/payer acceptance and billing practices, and (4) observing dining and activity offerings. Balancing the facility's clear clinical and environmental positives with the documented administrative and communication gaps will help determine fit for a particular resident's needs.

    About Pierce Care

Pierce Care, also called Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, is a senior living community in Brooklyn, Connecticut, that serves older adults and adults with disabilities by offering a wide range of care options on one campus, and when you come here, you'll find apartments and cottages for independent and assisted living along with services for long-term skilled nursing, memory care for those with dementia, home care, and even short-term rehabilitation through Pierce Memorial. The facility provides transportation arrangements, has parking, offers daily housekeeping and laundry services, and prepares three nutritious meals every day with choices for people who need special diets, using fresh, local foods when they can, and meals are served in common dining areas across care types. Staff coordinate care with local clinics and have a team that includes licensed nurses available 24 hours, doctors, therapists covering physical, occupational, and speech needs, a registered dietitian, a social worker, a chaplain, and other dedicated professionals who all focus on helping residents with activities like bathing, dressing, transfers, and medication management, and they support both daily and long-term needs whether someone is here for rehab after surgery or needs ongoing attention.

Many find comfort that rooms, which can be private or semi-private, come fully furnished, have their own bathrooms with showers, individual thermostats, and basic cable, while Wi-Fi covers the whole building, so folks stay connected, and there are also furnished common rooms, a barber and salon, a garden, and outdoor walking paths and patios for relaxing or small gatherings. The community works to be safe and accessible, with features to help prevent wandering in seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia, a 24-hour call system, and supervision at all hours. Programs fill the days with choices like movie nights, exercise groups, bingo, music, games, baking, live entertainment, parties, and spiritual consultation, plus a volunteer program, pet therapy visits, and activities that connect seniors with people of other generations, which helps many residents feel less isolated. On-site health services include podiatry, eye care, and dental visits, and the care team meets regularly to adjust individual plans-making Pierce Care one of those places that tries to cover both medical and social needs in a relaxed setting that feels home-like without being too fancy or complicated, suiting people who just want things handled without much fuss.
