    Summary of reviews

Cherry Brook Health Care Center elicits broadly mixed but specific impressions. Many accounts highlight strong rehabilitative services, compassionate caregivers, and a generally clean, comfortable facility with pleasant outdoor spaces and appropriately sized rooms. Reception and office personnel are frequently described as welcoming and helpful, and several families emphasize the quality of physical and occupational therapy — in a number of cases calling the rehab services exemplary. The facility’s recreation offerings and therapy-led activities are seen as engaging by many residents, and the site’s hospitality orientation and family advocacy (one staff member named Rebecca is singled out) are noted as positives.

At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns that prospective residents and families should evaluate. Understaffing is a consistent theme, and reviewers describe resulting gaps such as delays in attending to resident requests and incontinence-care delays. These staffing constraints are also linked to inconsistent medication-administration practices and variation in therapy availability; some visitors praise therapy teams while others describe limited or insufficient therapy staffing during particular stays. There are also complaints about variability in staff conduct and communication tone, which suggests unevenness in training or supervisory oversight.

Dining and programming present a mixed picture. Many residents and families compliment the variety and presentation of meals, and some call out excellent food service; others identify inconsistent food quality and specific kitchen-management issues. Activity options beyond basic offerings appear limited in some reports — exercise programs and transportation services are commonly noted as lacking or constrained, which may affect residents seeking more active or off-site engagement.

Facility condition is generally described as comfortable and well maintained in many areas, including wide hallways and clean common spaces. However, there are isolated sanitation concerns and references to outdated areas of the building that warrant a walk-through during a tour. Leadership and administration receive positive comments for proactive communication in several accounts, though operational weaknesses (staffing, kitchen oversight, medication processes) point to areas where management attention would be beneficial.

Overall, Cherry Brook may be a strong option for short-term rehabilitation and for residents who prioritize hands-on therapy and a welcoming team in many units. Families considering the facility should ask specific questions about staffing levels and ratios, call-bell response protocols, medication administration practices, kitchen oversight, and the schedule and scope of therapy and activity programming. A tour focused on staffing coverage during different shifts, meal-service practices, and cleanliness in both common and semi-private rooms will help assess whether the facility’s strengths align with an individual resident’s needs.

About Cherry Brook Health Care Center

Cherry Brook Health Care Center sits at 102 Dyer Ave in Collinsville, CT, and although there's not a lot of information available about the place itself, one can say that the inspection ratings have been solid, with an overall score of A- and an A on recent government inspections, which shows a steady history of good performance and only one deficiency found in the recent review, so that tells you they're consistent. The center is managed by New Horizons, Inc., a non-profit group, which sometimes brings a different approach compared to for-profit places. It offers all sorts of care, including skilled nursing, respite care, rehabilitation, assisted living, memory care, and extended care for different needs, and their staff handle things like medication management, wound care, speech therapy, stroke recovery, IV antibiotic therapy, cardiac therapy, tracheotomy care, dialysis, and therapy services like physical, occupational, and respiratory. They even have programs for orthopedic rehab, catheter and lymphedema care, recreational therapy, adult day care, and outpatient rehab for adults coming in from the community. The facility has studio room layouts and makes personalized care plans for residents, while also providing nursing and medical staff hours for every person. Hospice care is available when it's needed, and homemaking services are also provided. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted, and both a resident council and a family council give people a voice in the place, which can be important. The facility holds a 3-star rating out of 5 from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and its average rating is 7.5 out of 10, which puts it at the top of its city, even though there aren't many details out there about the environment or daily life. There are resources and support services for residents and families, and amenities vary depending on care type, though nothing fancy is really highlighted. All care is carried out in English. While the staff focus on providing compassionate and dignified care with respect, new patients aren't being accepted right now, so the only way in is if you're already there or waiting on a change, but if you're looking for high quality senior care and a range of medical services, it stands out among local options, just keep in mind space is limited and most information comes from inspection reports.
