    Moved my mom; very pleased

I toured and then moved my mom here and have been very pleased. The staff are caring and attentive, the food is excellent (restaurant-style), apartments are spacious and clean, and the activities calendar is full and engaging - plus on-site therapy, pharmacy and transportation make life easy. I would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Forwood Manor elicits a mixed but clear pattern: many families and residents praise the community for its warm staff, strong dining program, spacious apartment-style units, and a broad activity calendar, while others describe operational inconsistencies that matter for higher-acuity care or for residents who value predictable service delivery.

Care and staff: A substantial portion of reviewers describe staff as compassionate, personable, and willing to go beyond basic duties; several accounts highlight smooth move-ins, attentive nurses, and timely medical transfers. At the same time, there are recurring concerns about inconsistent responsiveness from reception and management, occasional staffing turnover, and gaps in clinical oversight. A limited number of serious clinical concerns were raised, including a complaint about medication management; families should verify clinical protocols, supervision, and handoff practices during a visit.

Dining and food service: The dining program is frequently cited as a strength — restaurant-style service, a skilled chef, generous portions, and varied menus are noted across many accounts. However, reviewers also describe inconsistencies in meal availability and delivery (early closures of breakfast service on some days, missed or poorly delivered room-service items), and uneven weekend offerings. Prospective residents should confirm meal schedules, delivery procedures, and how special-diet requests are handled.

Activities and social life: Forwood Manor offers an extensive calendar (concerts, bus outings, crafts, gardening, games, and resident clubs) and on-site social programming that many find fulfilling. Conversely, activity availability can be uneven: cancellations for illness or staffing shortages occur, and some residents reported feeling isolated despite the breadth of programming. Activity participation may vary by wing and by resident mobility/acuity.

Facilities and maintenance: Physical accommodations receive strong positive comments when recently updated — light-filled apartments, bay windows, large living areas, and walk-in closets are commonly praised. Grounds and outdoor spaces are well maintained. That said, reviewers point to older sections with long, dim corridors, dated carpeting, and occasional maintenance deficiencies (slow repairs, sticking doors, shower rails) that were sometimes corrected but introduced short-term safety concerns. Confirm the condition of the specific unit and ask about maintenance response times.

Management, policies, and cost: Admissions and many frontline staff are described as helpful and informative, and the community has experience implementing and enforcing infection-control protocols when needed. At the same time, families cite inconsistent communication from management, reception problems (key/access issues, missed callbacks), and variability in pet-policy enforcement. Financially, several reviewers flagged significant upfront fees and higher monthly costs; price sensitivity and contract details (move-in fees, extra charges for assistance) should be reviewed closely.

Notable patterns and guidance: Forwood Manor may be a strong fit for prospective residents who prioritize dining, spacious apartment living, a wide range of activities, and an active campus with on-site transportation and therapy. Families seeking consistently high clinical oversight, guaranteed meal-service continuity, or absolute consistency in staffing and maintenance responsiveness should probe those operational areas during a tour. Recommended questions for tours include staffing ratios, medication-administration protocols and clinical oversight, average response time for maintenance requests, sample activity participation levels for units similar to the one under consideration, pet-policy specifics, and full fee/package breakdowns.

Overall, the community presents clear strengths in hospitality, amenities, and food service, balanced by operational variability that can affect resident experience. A targeted, time-of-day visit and direct questions about the specific unit, care level, and operational policies will help determine whether it meets an individual resident’s requirements.

    About Forwood Manor

Forwood Manor offers a wide range of care and services for older adults who need different levels of support, whether someone wants independent living, assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing, and what stands out is that everything happens on one campus so folks can stay in the same community as their needs change, with continuing care retirement community options. The campus has well-designed and spacious apartments with kitchenettes or full kitchens, and some suites have private bedrooms with queen-sized beds, nightstands, and large windows that let in plenty of light, and everything is made to feel familiar and comfortable, with cozy living rooms, elegant dining rooms with white linens and chandeliers, and common areas with leather couches and a grand piano. Residents get to use the indoor heated pool, outdoor pool, community parks, a dog park, a gazebo, and even a clubhouse, and strolls through community gardens or along the pond or lake are part of daily life, which helps make it feel homey and close to nature.

There's help for daily tasks like bathing or medication if needed, and the staff stays friendly and well-trained without being overbearing, and anyone can join the activities, whether it's a craft class, educational talks, movie nights in the theater, or trips and outings to local shops and sites, so people aren't left bored or lonely. The MyChoice Dining Program and Five Star dining experience mean meals are covered in different plans, so there are options whether you want one, two, or three meals in the restaurant-style dining hall, with private dining rooms available for special occasions, and care-focused dining rooms make sure people who need extra support during meals get it. Residents can get housekeeping, full laundry, in-house religious services in the chapel, and even in-house doctor visits when necessary.

The grounds are fully landscaped over 13 acres with lots of places to sit and relax, including patios, balconies, and a lawn, and there's a pet-friendly policy with pet therapy too, so people can keep their animal companions. Forwood Manor puts health first, with no smoking indoors, and access to a fitness center with treadmills, bikes, and exercise gear. There are community computer workstations, a library, and a beauty salon and barbershop onsite, plus a cocktail lounge for a change of pace, and residents can take part in games, clubs, and volunteer events in the activity studio or social rooms. Security is a focus, with emergency call buttons in rooms, a gated entry, parking on site, and covered parking for those who drive.

For those needing more support, Forwood Manor includes memory care for people living with Alzheimer's or dementia, as well as rehab and respite care for recovery times, so families can get help whenever needed, even for short-term stays or adult day care, and there's a gentle, supportive feeling throughout without being stuffy or overly restrictive. Transportation is available for shopping, errands, or medical appointments, and outings are planned regularly to keep life interesting. Forwood Manor tries to be a place where older adults can live as independently as possible, stay active in mind and body, and enjoy the company of others in a safe, caring setting.
