    Gorgeous grounds attentive staff amenities

I live here and am very pleased - the grounds and housing are gorgeous and immaculate, staff are professional, kind, and attentive, and dining, activities, and onsite amenities (pool, gym, PT, barber, shuttle, even on-site banking and hospital-level care) make life easy. The community offers seamless care levels, a friendly social atmosphere, and good value; overall a comfortable, well-run place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Vicar's Landing at Sawgrass is consistently described as an upscale, well-maintained retirement community with attractive grounds, a range of apartment sizes and standalone cottages, and a strong set of on-campus amenities. Reviewers highlight the campus as scenic and walkable, with clean interiors, landscaped walkways, ample parking, and communal spaces such as dining rooms, lounges and a small bar. The facility offers many conveniences—an on-site barber, bank, shuttle service to local businesses, weekly linen service, and fitness and rehabilitation options including a pool, gym, aerobics and physical therapy—which support residents' daily living and wellness.

Care services have both positive and negative mentions. Many families and long-term residents praise the availability of continuous care on-site, noting that the health center can provide skilled nursing-level services when needed and that pandemic and hurricane responses were handled effectively. At the same time, a number of accounts point to operational weaknesses: inconsistent staffing levels, delays in responding to call lights and assistance requests, and variability in medication-administration practices. These issues are described as systemic operational gaps rather than isolated layout or building problems and are tied to family concerns about response times and clinical coordination.

Staff and management perceptions are mixed. Several reviewers commend friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff—particularly in dining, therapy, and some nursing areas—and emphasize positive social interactions, a robust activity calendar, and a generally pleasant community culture. Conversely, other reviewers describe uneven staff training, occasional unhelpful or curt interactions, and perceptions that administrative priorities can overshadow resident-facing concerns. Communication and family outreach are areas frequently cited for improvement, particularly around emergency response coordination, transitions between care levels, and clarity about eligibility for assisted-living or memory-care services.

Dining and activities are generally seen as strengths: many reviewers enjoy the food, special holiday meals, and active programming. However, dining quality and service consistency appear variable across the community, with some residents satisfied and others describing disappointment. The property’s upscale image and amenities appeal to those seeking an independent, activity-rich retirement setting, but some families question value for money when operational shortcomings affect care experiences.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: the community offers strong physical facilities, a wide amenity set, and continuity-of-care options that can benefit those planning for long-term residence. Prospective residents should clarify the facility’s current policies on assisted-living and memory-care admissions, ask specific questions about staffing ratios and response protocols, and inquire about recent measures taken to address training, medication practices, and family communication. Overall sentiment ranges from very positive—with many happy long-term residents—to mixed, where operational and management issues have led some families to pursue alternative placements or regulatory review.

    About Vicar's Landing at Sawgrass

Vicar's Landing at Sawgrass sits in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, in a quiet neighborhood with pretty grounds, lakes, and walking spaces, not far from parks and cultural spots, and since starting in 1988, the community's worked as a nonprofit focused on living well. This place is called a Life Choice CommunityTM, and they run both Vicar's Landing at Sawgrass and Vicar's Landing at Oak Bridge, sharing some features like the Village Green, a seven-acre lake, a clubhouse, state-of-the-art pool complex, a waterside pavilion at Oak Bridge, and other nice gathering spots. People come here as independent living residents first and can move through assisted living, skilled nursing care, and memory care as their needs change. There are about 138 employees helping with healthcare, dining, maintenance, security, and support, all led by a team that tries to keep a real sense of community by listening to resident committees, having an open-door complaint policy, and even using something called Cubago for updates and news.

The community offers 60 private rooms for care, and care includes post-surgical help, joint replacement recovery, disease management, and 24-hour skilled nursing, with a medical director on staff. Weekly housekeeping, free transportation for local stops or appointments, and 24/7 security and maintenance all come standard, with options to have extra transportation for more distant destinations when needed. There's a pendant program offering necklace and bracelet safety devices, and every home has emergency pull cords. Residents can choose from a range of homes like cottages and flats, with floor plans running from a one-bedroom at 825 square feet up to bigger spaces at 2,400 square feet. The community stays pet-friendly, with cats, dogs, and birds allowed, if they behave and their owners follow a few rules.

Dining gets special attention here, with Robert Taylor as Director of Dining Services and a team of private chefs making meals, and meal plans usually cover one meal per day, with choices among formal dining rooms, casual cafes, and a full bar. All residents get access to health and wellness programs, an on-site wellness clinic, and recreation. Activities include woodworking, stained glass classes, a strong croquet team, and there's a fitness center, library, salon, and walking trails outside. The staff tries to keep everyone engaged with social groups and support systems, and if family or guests want to visit, there are no limits on the length of visits or the time guests arrive.

Living here means access to concierge and move-in help, weekly housekeeping, transportation, and meal services, and the grounds are pretty enough for outdoor activities. Specialized care like assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care are available, with a high community score of 9.1 and a focus on health, safety, and having choices about how to live. The community is also part of sites like Facebook and Instagram, and will keep residents updated on events and news through digital communication. For those waiting for a spot, some amenities and activities are still open to members even while they're on the waitlist, and there's usually high demand for living options here.
