    Spacious waterfront community, caring staff

I moved my mom here and we're very happy. The waterfront grounds and resort-like setting are beautiful, apartments are spacious and recently updated, and the dining is excellent. Staff are friendly, genuinely caring, and made the move-in seamless; there are lots of activities, great family communication, and the community feels safe, clean, and well run - I recommend it to families.

    Summary of reviews

Addington Place at College Harbor elicits a broadly positive impression for independent and assisted living residents who prioritize a resort-like setting, social programming, and a strong therapy offering. Reviewers consistently praise the staff’s warmth and personal attention in many parts of the community, the waterfront grounds and landscaping, well-kept common areas, and the breadth of amenities (salon, gym, library, pool). Admissions and tour experience are often described as smooth and helpful, with specific staff members and senior living advisors frequently singled out for responsive support during moves.

Activity programming and social life are recurring strengths. The community runs a full calendar of classes, outings (museums, theaters, restaurant luncheons), small-group gatherings, exercise and wellness classes, and themed resident events; activities staff are commonly described as engaged and effective at fostering connections. Therapy and rehabilitation services receive strong commendations for clinical skill and compassionate care, with many residents reporting effective, timely recoveries after short-term stays.

Dining at the community is a mixed picture. Many reviews describe restaurant-style dining, three-course meals, and an attentive dining room staff; some reviewers call out an excellent chef and themed menus. At the same time, reviewers note inconsistency in meal quality and availability — menus that run out, variable preparation (overcooked or poorly cut items), and limited options late in service. Families of residents with chewing or swallowing limitations should verify meal preparation procedures and availability of assisted-dining support, as some accounts indicate limited assistance for residents who need meals cut or fed.

Care quality and staffing are the areas with the most divergent feedback. While assisted living staff and certain nurses and aides receive praise for compassion and attentiveness, there are recurring concerns about the skilled-nursing unit: staffing shortages, high RN turnover, inconsistent nurse coverage, slow call-button responses, and uneven follow-through on clinical issues and family communication. These operational gaps have been associated with lapses in oversight in clinical areas and a small number of serious family concerns, including at least one review that referenced a resident death and subsequent regulatory scrutiny. Therapy teams were generally praised even where skilled-nursing oversight was questioned, but families should assess nurse-to-resident ratios and handoff practices when evaluating higher-acuity needs.

Facility operations and amenities are strong overall, with many reviewers highlighting clean hallways, updated rooms, balconies with bay views, and well-maintained outdoor features (dock, gazebos, plantings). That said, some reviewers report dated conditions in specific areas, inadequate laundry facilities, and localized sanitation concerns in clinical spaces. Technology and ancillary-fee transparency are additional operational items to check: reviewers cite weak and unreliable Wi‑Fi, unclear or nondisclosed cable/TV fees, and occasional management lapses in returning calls or clarifying billing.

In short, Addington Place at College Harbor appears well suited for independent or assisted-living residents seeking an active, amenity-rich, waterfront community with a strong social culture and good therapy services. Prospective residents and families considering higher-acuity care should prioritize on-site evaluation of the skilled-nursing unit: ask about current staffing levels and RN ratios, call-response times, meal-assistance protocols for residents with swallowing or chewing needs, rehab-to-nursing communication processes, fee disclosures (technology and cable), and Wi‑Fi reliability. Visiting during mealtime and a therapy session, and requesting recent staffing metrics and incident/quality reports, will help clarify whether the operational concerns noted in some reviews have been addressed.

About Addington Place at College Harbor

Addington Place at College Harbor sits right on the water in Saint Petersburg, Florida, and offers senior living in a large apartment community with views of Boca Ciega Bay, so you'll see the water and gardens from many rooms and patios. The place is pet-friendly, which is nice if you want to bring a small animal. There are lots of different floor plans, like Crescendo, Harmony, Sonata Studio, and Symphony units, so you can pick what fits best, and most apartments have kitchenettes and extra storage. It's a rental community with leases that have a 45-day out clause, which is a flexible setup for a senior place.

People there can choose from independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and short-term stays, and the staff stays on-site 24 hours a day. Nurses are available part-time, and there are also therapists for occupational and physical therapy, plus fitness and wellness programs that work for all ability levels. The care starts with a personalized care plan and covers things like medication help, bathing, getting dressed, mobility, and laundry. For seniors with dementia, there's a memory care program in safe areas to cut down on confusion and wandering.

The apartments come with safety features in the bathrooms, housekeeping every week, personal laundry service, and a 24-hour emergency response system. The building itself has a welcoming lobby with art and comfy seats, elevators, plenty of parking, walking paths, and even balconies surrounded by gardens and fountains, and you're never far from a nice view. There's a fitness center you can visit any hour of the day, and a heated outdoor pool and whirlpool, plus walking paths and a putting green. If you like games and groups, there's a billiards room, shuffleboard court, home theater, arts and crafts room, card room, and even a big room with a fireplace.

Dining gets special attention, with up to three chef-prepared meals a day served restaurant-style in a big elegant dining space, but you can also eat in your apartment with room service or use the private dining room for gatherings. The kitchen staff focuses on healthy, tasty meals for residents, and a concierge helps arrange things. The community runs its own shuttle for medical appointments, shopping, and social outings, and residents get a full event calendar with the help of a Lifestyle Director who puts together programs, socials, classes, creative workshops, clubs, and outings-lots of these are in partnership with nearby Eckerd College and include special classes and programs for lifelong learning.

There's a full-service beauty salon and barber shop, a cozy library with lots to read, a computer center for internet access, and a chapel for non-denominational services. Addington Place does short-term respite care for those who need a rest or a break, and offers help with transition planning, which makes moves easier. People can have their own cars and park in the lot, or use the transportation offered, and there are furnished guest rooms for visitors.

The staff is known for being warm and staying for years, so most residents and staff start to feel like they know each other well. People can fish right off the property on the intercoastal waterway, join happy hour socials and block parties, or even help plan community events, and the community has won awards for quality care and activities, which people seem to appreciate since everyone has a chance to participate and make friends.

The grounds are landscaped with gardens and fountains, so if you want to stroll, go birdwatching, or just sit outside with a book, there's space for that, too, and it's peaceful right by the bay. The whole setup supports both independence and help, depending on what someone needs, and the community has options for almost every stage of aging, from active retirement to skilled nursing.
