    Clean facility, caring staff, recommended

I had a very good experience at Egret Cove. The facility is clean and beautiful, with lovely outdoor patios and a great location near the Pinellas Trail. The staff and therapy team are caring, efficient, and work like family - activities engage residents and they handled storm response professionally. I recommend Egret Cove for quality, supportive care.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Egret Cove Center are highly mixed, with a clear split between reviewers describing strong operational strengths and others identifying significant operational gaps. Positive feedback highlights effective emergency preparedness, a committed therapy team with documented successful cases, organized programming, and attractive outdoor amenities. At the same time, multiple reviewers describe recurring operational issues that suggest variability in dayโ€‘toโ€‘day care and facility management.

Care quality shows notable inconsistency. Several accounts praise the therapy and rehabilitation staff for good outcomes and attentive care, while other accounts cite irregularities in personalโ€‘care delivery (including bathing schedules and incontinenceโ€‘care responsiveness) and delays in transfers or access to rehabilitation services. There are also isolated but serious concerns following a resident's death that some families referenced; these underline the variability in clinical responsiveness and family communication.

Staffing and conduct are a focal point of divergence. Positive reports describe an organized, calm, and supportive culture where staff act like a family and respond well during emergencies. Conversely, other reviewers raise concerns about staff behavior, communication tone with families, and inconsistent engagementโ€”housekeeping staff are sometimes perceived as more personable than clinical caregivers. Reviewers also noted limited staffing on weekends and variability across shifts, which appears to affect continuity of care.

Dining and activities present a similarly mixed picture. The facility's activity program and two large patios (one designated for smoking) are praised as engaging and pleasant, and the location near a recreational trail is seen as an asset. However, complaints about food quality and interruptions to meal service were also reported, particularly during lowerโ€‘staffed periods.

Facility condition and neighborhood issues are reported unevenly. Several reviewers describe a clean, attractive facility undergoing renovation with no noticeable odors and wellโ€‘maintained grounds. Others report sanitation concerns in some shared bathrooms, odor concerns in communal areas, littering, and the need for further remodeling in parts of the property. Separate comments reference neighborhood safety concerns, including alleged illicit activity on nearby trails and problematic traffic or driving behavior by staff or visitors; these reports point to perceived gaps in perimeter control and supervision.

Management and documentation generate important recurring themes. Some reviewers commend leadership for effective storm response and coordination. At the same time, there are concerns about management transparency, a tipping policy that some found problematic, and weaknesses in medicalโ€‘record handlingโ€”missing, misfiled, or outdated documentsโ€”and at least one allegation involving manipulation of records. These issues contribute to distrust among some families and the need for frequent verification of records and care plans.

Overall, Egret Cove Center demonstrates clear operational strengthsโ€”particularly in emergency preparedness, therapy services, activities, and certain aspects of staff cultureโ€”but also exhibits patterns of inconsistency across caregiving, cleanliness, staffing continuity, documentation, and perimeter safety. Prospective residents and families would benefit from inโ€‘person tours that probe staffing levels (including weekend coverage), supervision/elopement prevention measures, documentation practices, and meal/therapy schedules to determine how the facility's strengths align with their priorities.

    About Egret Cove Center

Egret Cove Center sits as a Skilled Nursing Home with 120 certified beds, where you'll find a mix of short-term and long-term care, and the place takes Medicaid and Medicare, which can be important for some families. The staff includes Certified Nursing Assistants, Registered Nurses, and Licensed Practical Nurses, all offering round-the-clock skilled nursing care supervised by a doctor, and there's over 210 years of combined professional experience shared across the team, so people can feel like someone's always on hand who knows what they're doing. Residents get a range of services, like social services, activities, nutritional programs, housekeeping, and laundry, and the clinical side covers cardiac care, diabetes management, pain management, and programs for stroke rehabilitation, care after an amputation, and wound care, which not every place can offer. There's a therapy gym that stands out because it has an innovative obstacle course, and professional therapists provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy, focusing both on skilled rehabilitation and helping folks transition back home after something like a hospital stay. The facility keeps a nurse-to-resident ratio with 3.12 nurse hours per resident per day, but the nurse turnover rate is 53.6%, so that's something to consider. Egret Cove Center earned 20 deficiencies in recent inspections, with one infection-related, and also had some issues around infection control, pharmacy services, and making sure there's a working call system in each resident's bathroom and bathing area. As a non-profit, owned by those with at least a 5% stake and part of Hearthstone Senior Communities, the facility is committed to care that encourages respect, empathy, and dignity, emphasizing clear communication and the involvement of residents, patients, and families in making care decisions, and you can expect holistic and restorative services especially suited for those who can't live independently anymore. Staff pride themselves on compassion, and the support staff bring over 80 collective years of experience, embracing diversity, learning, and being responsive to the needs of the local community, so for those looking for somewhere with a wide range of nursing and rehabilitation options, Egret Cove Center stands as a choice with a mix of strengths and areas it's still working on, with all care focused on planning for each resident's goals and needs.
