    Friendly cruise-ship vibe and amenities

I'm very pleased overall - the new, well-decorated building has a friendly cruise-ship vibe, spacious apartments, an inviting pool and well-kept grounds, and the food (Chef Jeff) is excellent. The staff are exceptionally helpful, residents are welcoming, activities are plentiful, dogs are allowed and everything's included; I truly feel at home.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Marshall Square Retirement Community presents as a well-maintained independent-living community with a strong emphasis on social engagement, hospitality, and amenity-driven living. Reviewers consistently describe friendly, helpful staff and a variety of daily activities that create an active social environment. Physical spaces are regularly praised — including spacious, well-decorated apartments, attractive grounds and a pool — and many residents liken the experience to a "cruise ship" on land, emphasizing convenience and an inclusive-feeling service model.

Care and staffing: Staffing is described positively in interpersonal terms: staff are frequently called helpful, welcoming, and attentive, and families highlighted assistance with move-in and everyday needs. The community appears primarily oriented toward independent living; reviewers characterize the setting as well suited to active seniors who do not require significant medical or nursing support. Prospective residents who need higher-acuity or memory-care services should confirm the level of clinical support available, as on-site higher-acuity services appear limited.

Dining and activities: Dining is a clear strength in the feedback. Multiple mentions of a named chef and consistently favorable remarks about food quality indicate a robust dining program. Activities programming also receives strong praise — daily events, fellowship opportunities, and an engaged resident culture are recurrent themes. The pet-friendly policy and concierge-style amenities further support an active, community-oriented lifestyle.

Facilities and management: Reviewers commonly note clean, well-managed common areas and newer construction or recent updates in parts of the campus. Management is credited with maintaining grounds and providing an "everything included" model for many services. That said, some residents perceive the community as impersonal at times, which can be a feature of larger or more structured environments. The facility also uses upfront deposits or reservation fees for unit holds; prospective residents should review contract terms and refund policies closely.

Notable patterns and cautions: Cost is a recurring operational consideration — prices and fees are described as high by reviewers, so financial fit should be verified against individual budgets. In addition, an individual review referenced a significant fire-related incident that raised questions about building safety and emergency response; this highlights the importance of confirming the community's current fire-safety systems, emergency-preparedness procedures, and inspection history. In summary, Marshall Square appears well suited for independent, active seniors seeking a social, amenity-rich setting with strong dining and activities. Families should confirm pricing, contract terms (including deposits), the level of clinical care available, and up-to-date safety and emergency protocols before making a decision.

    About Marshall Square Retirement Community

Marshall Square Retirement Community sits in Evans Towne Center at 850 Ronald Reagan Drive and lets adults aged 55 and up choose from studio, one, two, or three-bedroom apartments, each with full kitchens, spacious layouts, ground-floor options, and wheelchair accessible showers, which makes things easier for folks with mobility needs. The community covers almost everything in monthly rent, including utilities, weekly housekeeping, 24/7 concierge services, transportation for appointments or shopping, and an emergency alert system, and there are always live-in managers around in case anyone needs help right away. The dining program, called Freedom Style Dining, offers made-to-order meals, room service, and has vegan and vegetarian choices, plus there's always something to grab like snacks, coffee, juice, or ice cream during the day, and a chef prepares restaurant-style food for those who want to eat in the dining room.

The amenities go on, like a swimming pool and hot tub, fitness and exercise room with classes from aerobics to sit-down exercise, Wii bowling, bridge games, a library, art and music rooms, beauty salon, barbershop, billiards, business center, and indoor and outdoor gathering spots, so people can take part in book clubs, theater, devotional Bible study, or just read or chat with neighbors if they please. Pets are welcome and there's no extra deposit needed for your cat or small dog, which is nice for folks who don't want to give up a companion. Guest rooms are set aside for family visits, and residents can even use a travel program for stays at other properties in the management company's network.

Marshall Square stands out with its wide options for care: independent living, assisted living, memory care for residents facing dementia or Alzheimer's, long-term care, skilled nursing, and short-term respite stays, plus people can bring in home care services if they want to stay put as their needs change. There's a registered nurse around the clock for medical checks and so staff can help with bathing, dressing, medication, and therapy as needed, and live-in managers provide a family feel along with security. The place is handy for those needing handicap access, elevators, and high-speed internet throughout, and the full schedule of activities, wellness checks, and social events keeps folks busy if that's what they want. Residents have access to a community theater, TV lounge with bar, and dinners where wine tasting or happy hour keep things lively, and the property holds a strong satisfaction rating, with residents and families giving high marks for comfort, safety, dining, and the help they receive. The folks running Marshall Square aim to educate families, support aging in place, and match seniors' needs to services, while making things simple so you know just what you're getting without surprises.
