    Summary of reviews

The reviews for Fifth Avenue Health Care Center present a mixed picture in which strong, person-focused caregiving and robust therapy services coexist with recurring operational weaknesses. Many accounts highlight compassionate, respectful staff who provide dignified assistance and individualized attention. Therapy and rehabilitation services, along with a supportive dietitian and varied menu options, are commonly noted as strengths. Activity programming — including bingo, devotional groups, musical entertainers and other social offerings — contributes to a community-style atmosphere. Several families describe timely emergency response and a facility environment that can be clean and comfortably maintained, with allowance for room personalization.

At the same time, a number of substantive operational concerns emerge. Staffing stability appears uneven: reviewers indicate periods of high turnover and inconsistent staff presence, which correlate with variability in day-to-day care quality. Related issues include delays in assistance with personal care needs and inconsistent housekeeping performance. Some accounts point to maintenance problems and utilities interruptions that affect resident comfort. There are allegations suggesting lapses in infection-control enforcement and instances where the facility’s visible presentation for visitors may not reflect conditions in resident areas.

Communication and management practices are another recurring theme. While some families describe staff who resolve problems promptly and treat residents respectfully, others report gaps in how clinical decisions and care plans are communicated — for example, unclear explanations around transitions in goals of care. Concerns about management responsiveness, perceived unprofessional leadership behavior, and the termination or loss of long-standing staff members have contributed to uneven impressions. Several reviewers note that care attention appears more consistent when family members are present, suggesting systems for independent oversight and handoff reliability could be strengthened.

For prospective residents and families, the pattern suggests strong potential benefits in the facility’s clinical and social programming but also recommends careful vetting of operational practices. Practical steps when evaluating the center include observing care across multiple shifts, asking about staffing ratios and turnover, reviewing infection-control and incontinence-care protocols, inspecting housekeeping and common-area maintenance, confirming how clinical decisions and advance-care preferences are documented and communicated, and sampling meal service and activities. These targeted inquiries can help determine whether the facility’s praised strengths are reliably present for an individual resident and whether the operational concerns are being actively addressed.

About Fifth Avenue Health Care Center

Fifth Avenue Health Care Center sits near the corner of N 5th Ave SW and Avenue B in Rome, GA, and has provided senior care for 46 years under the management of Mr. Andy Morris. The facility offers a wide range of care, like long-term nursing home care, hospice care, rehabilitation, assisted living, and even independent living, so everyone from seniors needing help with daily life to those with more medical needs can stay there. The center accepts Medicare patients and helps manage their resident trust fund, and they've put in state-of-the-art technologies to help patients recover faster through physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Residents with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia get special memory care in safe areas made to prevent wandering and calm confusion.

Residents' rooms usually have kitchens or kitchenettes, cable TV, and housekeeping, with the building featuring safety tools like sprinkler systems, WiFi, an activities room, salon and barbershop, laundry rooms, and guest parking. There's also a fitness center, dining room, and places for social and wellness programs, arts and crafts, and regular education opportunities so no one feels lonely or left out. Meals are prepared by chefs and meal planners who focus on good taste and nutrition.

Skilled staff like nurses, physicians, therapists, and social workers work 24 hours a day, and personal care assistants help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. Medical services include wound care, medication help, podiatry, and occupational therapy, and the admissions staff are available every day for any questions or urgent needs. Transportation for appointments and outings is available.

Families can schedule tours to meet the staff, see the rooms, and get a feel for the community. The center connects with other healthcare support services, hospice, and dialysis facilities, and they contract support for care outside the regular offerings. The management company, Reliable Health Care Management, also owns several other senior centers like Cedarsprings and Chulio Hills. Fifth Avenue Health Care Center keeps a friendly atmosphere where people try to help each other and make residents and visitors feel comfortable. The business acts as a corporation and isn't BBB accredited. Families often keep in touch with care coordinators to help with hospital stays and care changes, and there's a resident trust fund for safe handling of residents' money. The facility stays modern and clean, always working to create a pleasant place to stay and recover.
