    Compassionate staff and welcoming facility

I'm very pleased with the compassionate, friendly staff - the director and nurses are engaged, attendants meet daily needs, and family communication is excellent. The facility is modern, clean, and welcoming with open common areas, activities, in-room kitchenettes, and hospice support that gave us confidence. My dad is settling in nicely and I feel he's in good hands; I recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The facility is generally described as a clean, modern, and welcoming environment with attractive common areas and a contemporary design. Many families emphasize that the physical plant supports socialization and family visits — there are multiple gathering spaces and bright, open circulation areas that residents and visitors find inviting. The presence of in-room kitchenettes or fridges is noted as a practical benefit for families who supplement meals.

Care and staff: Care quality is consistently highlighted as a strength. Reviewers commonly praise compassionate, engaged caregivers and highlight stable staffing and a favorable staff-to-resident ratio. Several accounts reference low turnover, continuity of caregivers, and leadership that responds quickly to concerns; these factors are linked to family confidence that residents are treated with dignity. The facility also supports clinical needs such as safe transfers (Hoyer lift availability) and coordinates with hospice providers when appropriate, which families reported as helpful during end-of-life care.

Dining: Dining impressions are mixed. While some families call the food good and nutritionally adequate, others describe inconsistent meal presentation and frequent issues with temperature and appetizingness. The facility appears to meet basic nutritional requirements, but there are recurrent comments about meals arriving cold or not being appealing, which some families addressed by using the in-room kitchenette to supplement food.

Activities and community life: Social programming and resident engagement receive positive remarks. Reviewers note a variety of activities and a family-like atmosphere among residents and staff. The facility’s layout and common spaces seem to support participation and family visitation, which contributes to a warm, communal feel.

Operations and communication: Management and leadership earn praise for responsiveness in many accounts, but there is variability in operational consistency. Families report an uneven admission and move-in experience — some found the transition smooth and reassuring while others experienced challenges. Communication is another mixed area: many families describe solid, helpful communication from staff, whereas others report difficulty contacting staff during clinical events or delays in ancillary services (for example, nail care). These patterns suggest ongoing operational refinement is needed, possibly related to being a newer or growing facility.

Notable patterns and considerations: Prospective residents and families can reasonably expect a modern, well-kept facility with engaged caregivers and a focus on person-centered care, including hospice support and family accommodations. Areas to investigate during a tour or pre-admission visit include current dining practices (meal timing and temperature), specific communication protocols for clinical escalations and hospital transfers, and scheduling for non-clinical personal-care services. Asking about recent staffing stability, move-in coordination, and examples of how leadership resolves communication breakdowns will help clarify whether the facility’s operational consistency matches the positive experiences many families described.

About Personal Care Senior Living - Columbia Heights

Personal Care Senior Living - Columbia Heights gives adults 55 and older a place where they can keep some independence, have privacy in their own suites or apartments with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, and get help when they need it with things like bathing, dressing, or remembering to take medicine. Staff provide around-the-clock support with personal care, there's a nurse on staff part-time, and residents get help from trained aides, so people get assistance for both regular daily needs and some health services. The facility is licensed by the state, carries license number 409145, and has been recognized for good care and positive reviews through awards like Best of Senior Living and the All-Star designation. Residents can enjoy game nights, story time, arts and crafts, a music group, and other simple programs that help people stay active socially and mentally. The outdoor patios, gardens, and recreation rooms give people common spaces to gather, while private options mean everyone can retreat to their own space when they want.

The community covers a wide range of needs with Assisted Living, Memory Care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, skilled nursing, home care, and hospice support; all these services help people at different stages of life, and there's support and supervision with activities of daily living. Meals, weekly housekeeping, laundry for personal items or linens, and maintenance all come as part of living here, and the building has handicap access, guest parking, and resident parking in a lot. Most rooms come wired for cable television and internet, so people can enjoy their own tech if they like, and shared meals happen in a large community dining room. Their approach puts an emphasis on keeping things easy and dignified for residents, offering activities, spiritual care, and wellness programs designed to help with emotional, mental, and physical health. The staff are known for being friendly and helpful, working one-on-one with residents to build relationships and better meet everyone's needs. People can bring some pets, though it's best to ask about the current policy before moving in.

Pricing starts at $7,420 per month for Assisted Living, and $8,300 for Memory Care, with a one-time entry fee of $1,000. The facility is open and accepting new residents, offering daily tours for those who want to see what goes on in the community or look at housing choices, including options like Bed & Breakfast suites, studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. The community keeps an office open 24 hours for support or coordination, so families and residents can always reach someone with questions or requests, and the staff assist with scheduling outside health appointments if needed. The location in Columbia Heights is easy to find and there are several other sites nearby, since the provider's main office is in Anoka and serves other Minnesota towns. Food is designed to offer proper nutrition, and there's always a focus on treating residents kindly and respectfully while helping them stay independent as long as possible.
