    Caring staff and excellent activities

I placed my mom at Serenity Place on 7th and I'm very pleased. The staff are consistently caring and friendly, the care and communication are excellent, and the bright, clean facility offers roomy one-bed apartments with full kitchens and safe bathrooms, lovely walking paths, church access, and lots of engaging activities (bands, bingo, crafts, library). Meals, helpful transportation/VA day program, and overall value make this a comfortable, worry-free place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Serenity Place on 7th elicits a mixed but broadly informative portrait. Many families and residents emphasize a welcoming, small-town atmosphere, well-maintained common areas, and apartment-style units that include full kitchens and accessible bathrooms with grab bars. The community’s activities program — including crafts, bingo, bands, a library and scheduled outings — is consistently described as active and engaging, and reviewers commonly cited good communication with families and a strong COVID-era infection-control response.

Care and staff receive both strong praise and criticism. Numerous accounts describe caring, friendly staff who build personal relationships with residents and provide attentive assistance; those comments suggest a culture of compassion among many caregivers. However, that positive impression is offset by recurring operational concerns: frequent leadership turnover, chronic staffing shortages, and instances of inconsistent staff professionalism and responsiveness. These patterns are presented as ongoing operational challenges rather than isolated events, and several families linked them to intermittent service delays or organizational confusion.

Dining is an area of clear variability. Some reviewers commended the meals and overall dining experience, while others raised concerns about food quality and meal-temperature control (for example, overcooked or cold entrees and inconsistent vegetable preparation). Prospective residents should expect that meal satisfaction may vary and may be worth sampling during a visit.

Facilities and amenities are generally viewed positively: bright, clean interiors, walking paths, activity spaces and a comfortable communal feel. A minority of reviewers, however, flagged sanitation or cleanliness issues in certain areas, indicating inconsistency in housekeeping effectiveness. Transportation services, including a day-program partnership with the local VA and fee-based bus trips for shopping and appointments, add convenience for some families.

Management and operations are the most commonly noted weaknesses. Administrative instability and turnover at leadership levels, combined with staffing shortages, appear to produce intermittent organizational confusion and variability in service delivery. These operational traits help explain the mixed reports on dining, staffing responsiveness, and occasional sanitation lapses.

For prospective residents and families: the community’s strengths lie in its active programming, apartment-style units, family communication, and a generally caring staff culture. Important due diligence items to address during a tour are current leadership stability and staff-to-resident ratios, a sample meal service, housekeeping schedules and sanitation protocols, and how the facility manages staffing shortfalls. That information will help determine whether the facility’s positive attributes align with your priorities and whether the operational challenges are being actively managed.
