    Warm community, excellent care, beautiful

I'm very pleased with this nonprofit senior community - the staff are consistently wonderful, caring, and know residents by name. Care is high-quality with excellent nursing ratios, an expert medical and therapy team (great gym and rehab), personalized attention, and a warm, family-like atmosphere. The campus is safe, clean and beautiful with private rooms, many common areas, varied dining and activities, and a convenient location near transit, food and entertainment - I'd recommend it for transitional care and long-term living.

    Summary of reviews

Episcopal Church Home by Episcopal Homes presents a mix of clear strengths and recurring operational concerns. Positive aspects frequently cited include a strong rehabilitative focus with an on-site PT/OT team and a transitional care unit intended to return residents home after therapy. The campus offers multiple dining venues and social dining options, numerous common areas and outdoor courtyards, on-site amenities such as pools and a sauna, and generally spacious private rooms with ample natural light. Several families described a warm, family-like atmosphere supported by volunteers and staff who often know residents by name; that sense of continuity and personalized attention is a consistent strength cited alongside a long waitlist that indicates substantial local demand.

Care and staffing present a mixed picture. Many reviewers praised compassionate, consistent caregivers and individualized attention, particularly in long-term and rehabilitative areas. At the same time, there are repeated accounts pointing to inconsistent nursing practices and variable adherence to documented care plans. Concerns about medication administration processes and the tone of staff-resident interactions appear in multiple comments; there are also isolated allegations of inappropriate conduct and coerced medication practices that families raising serious questions should investigate directly. Staffing levels and responsiveness are uneven: understaffing and delayed responses to call signals were described alongside accounts of high staffing ratios and dedicated therapy teams.

Dining and activities vary in quality and consistency. The facility’s activity program and event offerings (bingo, concerts, organized outings) and multiple dining formats (terrace restaurant, white-tablecloth dining, pub) are positive features that support social engagement. However, dining service quality is reported as inconsistent, with examples of meals served at suboptimal temperature and occasional beverage or food-quality issues. Weekend therapy availability and scheduling flexibility were also noted as limitations for some residents.

Facilities and operations reflect a well-appointed campus but uneven execution. The physical environment—sunrooms, coffee cafes, living rooms, outdoor patios, and private rooms—receives positive comments for upkeep and comfort. Nevertheless, sanitation and incontinence-care concerns were raised for specific units, and reviewers described variability in cleanliness and housekeeping standards across the campus. Language barriers and reports of culturally insensitive or discriminatory behavior by some staff or managers represent a serious concern for family members who value cultural competence.

Management, communication, and infection-control practices are recurring themes. Families described difficulties with admissions responsiveness, callbacks, and paperwork inefficiencies, as well as gaps in how complaints are investigated and resolved. Infection-prevention practices and vaccination policy enforcement were described as inconsistent by some families, including situations that led to quarantines; these items suggest prospective families should ask about current policies and enforcement. Overall, the reviews are polarized: many families and residents highly praise the therapy services, campus amenities, and caring staff, while others describe operational weaknesses linked to staffing, communication, dining consistency, sanitation in particular units, and managerial follow-through. Prospective residents and their families would benefit from an in-person tour of the specific unit they would occupy, direct conversations about staffing ratios, medication and infection-control protocols, recent survey or complaint history, and sample meals to assess consistency before deciding.

About Episcopal Church Home by Episcopal Homes

Episcopal Church Home by Episcopal Homes sits among senior housing apartments and offers several types of care, including nursing home care, memory care, assisted living, independent living, transitional care, and short-term respite stays, and it has a smoke-free policy that covers inside the buildings, but not the outdoor areas, you see, so residents who want care and support can find skilled help whether they need a little or a lot, and there's always 24-hour nursing available in small Green House Home Model households where no more than 10 people live together, each in a private room with a private bath, and everyone shares home-cooked meals prepared right in an open kitchen, plus each household has a game room with big windows that let in a lot of light and open living and dining rooms with fireplaces and lounge spaces so you get the feeling of home even when you need more help than you used to. People can see photos of the rooms and there's Wi-Fi everywhere and underground garages for cars, and healthcare services include incontinence care, dental, dietary, X-rays, mental health support, and therapy for body or speech, all provided by a staff with a high staff-to-resident ratio, and those caregivers called Shahbaz are all CNAs with special training that puts residents first. Some doctors, nurse practitioners, podiatrists, dentists, optometrists, psychologists, and hearing aid specialists are right there on campus, making it so you don't have to go far. For good living, there's a warm water therapy pool, green spaces, five courtyards with fountains where people sit in the sun or read, and during the week there are outings to stores, concerts, and art spots, plus on-campus concerts each month, treasured by people who enjoy music. Food choices come from several dining rooms and spots-like The Bistro, The Cafe, Parkside Dining Room, Terrace Grille, Watter's Pub, and Marketplace Café that serves salads, soups, sandwiches, and treats-and there's housekeeping, as well as a beauty shop called Silver Curl for hair, and a Gift Shop for cards or small needs. Residents can join in recreation and spiritual life, with chaplains leading worship and ministry in two on-site chapels, helping people develop physical, spiritual, and social skills. The Transitional Care Center, memory care, skilled nursing, and assisted living all have their own staff and spaces, with therapy services-physical, occupational, and speech-available for those who need to recover from hospital stays or just keep up their skills. Most importantly, the statewide 5-star rating reflects how staff focus on person-centered, kind care in a place designed for people to live as fully as possible, with privacy and support, in surroundings that don't feel like an institution but more like a home where friends gather, where days are spent as well as they can be, and everyone knows your name.
