    Warm responsive staff, excellent care

I toured and chose this fairly new, very clean community because the staff are warm, responsive, and truly resident-focused - the activities director keeps everyone engaged, the chef and dining team are excellent, and maintenance/concierge are quick to help. The modern, comfortable apartments in a walkable, restaurant-filled neighborhood with on-site services and memory-care options give my family real peace of mind. I'm grateful for the friendly, attentive staff and the one-on-one care in this smaller community and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Seven Hills Senior Living is described primarily as a modern, well-appointed community with many operational strengths and several recurring operational weaknesses to consider. The physical plant and amenities are commonly praised: reviewers note a newer building with spacious apartments, large elevators, library and conference spaces, a main-floor living room with coffee and baked goods, and on-site dining venues (bistro, pub, coffee shop). The location is convenient and walkable, with transit access and nearby shops and restaurants. The community supports aging in place, offering an on-site physician, Bluestone clinical testing, and a separated memory-care unit that completes a continuum of care.

Care and staff receive mixed but informative feedback. Many families emphasize warm, caring, and helpful caregivers, a welcoming front desk and concierge, and an activities director who keeps residents engaged. There are accounts of aides visiting multiple times per day, coordinated hospice collaboration, and staff who are willing to accommodate special needs. At the same time, a consistent pattern emerges around staffing instability: high turnover, rotation issues, and gaps in evening/night coverage. These staffing patterns are associated with delays in attending to residents, inconsistent follow-through on care plans, and concerns about medication handling and clinical response. Prospective families should clarify staffing ratios, night-coverage protocols, and medication-administration procedures before committing.

Dining and activities are strengths for many residents: chef-prepared meals, daily menus, yoga and chair-exercise classes, and transportation to activities contribute to a social, engaged atmosphere. However, families also cite variability in meal quality, small portions at times, and less appealing room-service presentation. Some dining options incur extra charges, and the community’s flexible meal plans mean cost and value should be examined during financial discussions.

Management and administrative patterns are mixed. Reviewers frequently praise a friendly, helpful front office and a generally smooth move-in process, but note leadership turnover and unclear escalation pathways when issues arise. Financial transparency is an area of concern: there are references to billing inconsistencies, a two-year private-pay commitment, and additional charges for equipment or installation. Construction and design choices have practical implications—examples include shower thresholds that limit roll-in access, a lack of outdoor seating, and non-intuitive in-room controls (thermostat, phone, TV channel packages). Prospective residents should confirm contract terms, what is included in fees, accessibility features of chosen apartment types, and the process for addressing maintenance or billing issues.

Overall, Seven Hills offers many tangible advantages: modern facilities, clinical resources on-site, a strong activities program, and a generally compassionate staff culture. The principal caveats concern operational reliability—particularly staffing consistency, clinical-response processes, and financial transparency. For families considering this community, recommended due diligence includes asking about staffing levels and schedules (especially overnight coverage), medication and emergency protocols, detailed contract and billing terms, and verification of specific apartment accessibility features and dining inclusions.

    About Seven Hills Senior Living

Seven Hills Senior Living sits at 733 Selby Ave in St. Paul, MN, in a red-brick building finished in 2019 that looks a bit like the historic buildings you find on Selby and Grand Avenue, with heavy wood beams and cozy booths inside that remind many people of the old Cathedral Hill café, and the building itself is pretty big, about 126,900 square feet, holding 101 units, a two-story sanctuary, church, classrooms, and offices all connected under one roof alongside the Morning Star Baptist Church, which adds a special character you don't see everywhere. Seniors can pick independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or care suites, and the place helps people move between these levels if their needs change, so they don't have to leave their new home when more care's needed. People often say the community feels close-knit, with staff focused on giving dignified care, and residents can count on help for daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or medication reminders, along with memory care programs developed for those living with Alzheimer's or other dementia, including safety features to reduce confusion or wandering.

The facility tries to keep life interesting and social, offering group activities like concerts, theater trips, museum visits, shopping shuttles, game nights, and fitness classes with transportation available to get people around, which can make it easier to get out and enjoy some of what St. Paul has to offer. People who like being active find plenty to do, with access to a library, devotional services both inside and off-site, community rooms inside and out, and even beautician services, so it's easy to stay looking and feeling one's best. Meals get served restaurant-style with professional chef-prepared dishes, and there's a flexible approach to dining, so residents can choose options like home-style cooked meals, anytime dining, or special event rooms for family celebrations, with consideration for different diets such as vegetarian, gluten-free, diabetic, or high-protein, and a focus on a dignified meal experience especially for those in memory care.

Apartments come with handy features like in-unit washers and dryers, pet-friendly policies, and high-speed internet in the common areas, trying to make things as comfortable and worry-free as possible, while the whole campus is designed to be easy to get around for people with mobility aids. There's a focus on safety, including staff on-hand for medication and health needs-like help with diabetes or incontinence-so folks can keep their independence as far as possible while feeling cared for and secure. Seven Hills Senior Living offers access to planning resources, glossaries, family caregiver support, and info to help understand different senior living options and manage costs, so people and their families can make confident choices. The whole community is set up to let seniors connect and build friendships, enjoy a rich calendar of events, and feel part of something, whether taking part in social programs, using the two-story sanctuary for worship, or simply relaxing in a safe, graceful setting that pays attention to both quality of life and comfort.
