    Caring staff and safe community

I placed my parent here and have been very satisfied. The staff is family-oriented, responsive and genuinely caring; admissions were attentive and helpful and provided useful resources and extra assistance. Housing feels safe with friendly long-term neighbors, three meals a day and regular activities and day trips - a warm, community-focused place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment from the reviews is mixed but leans positive around the human side of Hayes Residence while raising clear concerns about the physical environment and clinical capabilities. Multiple reviewers emphasize a warm, family-oriented culture with staff who are responsive to family requests, knowledgeable, helpful, kind, and who treat residents wonderfully. The community aspect is repeatedly highlighted: many long-term residents, friendly neighbors, and residents who appear genuinely content, which suggests a stable, socially supportive setting that many find comforting and appropriate for social needs.

Care quality and staffing come across strongly as a strength. Reviewers repeatedly call out staff responsiveness and describe them as caring and attentive. Families feel listened to, and staff responsiveness to family requests is specifically noted. That said, reviewers also explicitly indicate limited medical support. The facility appears suited for residents with low-to-moderate care needs rather than those requiring extensive medical or nursing services. Prospective residents and families should interpret the strong relational care as a positive, but also verify clinical capabilities if greater medical oversight is required.

Facilities and accommodations are the most frequently cited concerns. Hayes Residence is described as an older building with mostly shared rooms, tiny twin beds, and no shades on windows. Visible wear—scratches on furniture—and general cleanliness problems are mentioned more than once. Several reviewers state the place "needs a complete facelift," signaling that cosmetic and possibly functional upgrades are overdue. The predominance of shared rooms raises privacy considerations, and the small bed size and lack of basic comforts (window shades) suggest that physical accommodations may not meet expectations for those seeking more modern or private living spaces.

Dining and activities are positive but basic. The facility provides three meals per day and offers activities and day trips, which contributes to resident engagement and the sense that residents are content. These offerings, together with the community atmosphere, support social well-being even if they are not described as luxurious or extensive.

Management and neighborhood context show a mixed picture. Management/staff responsiveness is a clear plus, but reviewers also call out an uncomfortable social dynamic with the surrounding neighborhood described as elitist or unfriendly. That external factor does not reflect the internal culture of the residence itself, which reviewers characterize as welcoming, but it may influence visitors’ impressions or the broader feel of the location.

In summary, Hayes Residence appears to be a community-focused, family-oriented home where staff are praised for kindness, responsiveness, and good treatment of residents. It is likely a good fit for people seeking a socially rich environment with basic meals and activities and who do not need intensive medical care. However, the physical plant shows significant signs of aging and wear, cleanliness issues are noted, rooms are mostly shared and small, and some amenities (like window shades) are missing. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong interpersonal care and community benefits against the facility’s need for renovation and its limited medical support, and should inspect rooms and staffing capabilities in person to ensure they meet individual needs and expectations.

    About Hayes Residence

Hayes Residence sits in Ramsey County and has been around since 1973, offering care as both a retirement home and residential care home for folks who need assisted living, nursing, or memory care, with 40 assisted living units and space for more than 40 residents overall, and you'll find people there with a range of needs, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The place has semi-private "retreat" rooms, studio suites, and one-bedroom apartments for people to choose from, and the walls in the big basement activity room have Minnesota landscape scenes painted on them, which adds a sort of homey touch. Residents can get help with daily living, like showering, dressing, moving around, transfers, spoon feeding if needed, and there's medication management and licensed nurses on staff 24 hours a day, plus oxygen therapy and home health services, and they cover non-ambulatory care, too.

There's a strong focus on safety, with 24-hour call and emergency alert systems, as well as security. Service plans get made for each person, and there are service assessments to make sure needs are met. Hayes Residence works with hospitals, clinics, and social agencies to get folks the care they need, and both a resident council and a family council keep people involved in care and community life. Meals come three times a day in the dining room or in a private section if you want, with options for special diets like diabetes or allergies, and there's also a café if you're up for something different, and all the food is meant to be nutritious.

Residents can enjoy a long list of activities, such as arts and crafts, bowling outings, picnics, relaxation and baking classes, movie nights in the theater room, and trips to restaurants, and there's a big arts room, a fitness center, walking paths in the garden and courtyard, and a library, as well as a beauty and barber shop on site to help with grooming. Hayes Residence allows small pets, has on-site parking, a furnished room for each person, telephone access, and laundry or dry cleaning service. Folks who need transportation for errands or appointments can get rides, and counseling and guidance services are available.

Wi-Fi covers the entire facility. The staff do housekeeping, provide personal care, and give medication as needed, and they help with memory care and dementia care, too. Hayes Residence accepts Medicaid and Medicare for payment, which helps many folks pay for their stay. There's no publicly available information about Hayes Residence beyond these details, but the place aims to give people a home-like setting while helping them live as well as possible.
