    Beautiful facility but serious care

I chose this bright, brand-new facility because it looks great - clean rooms, nice dining and pleasant grounds - but my experience was mixed. Some staff were caring and personable, yet others were clearly understaffed, inattentive or incompetent: missed ADLs, medication errors, dehydration that led to hospitalization, and even a theft incident. Administration was often unresponsive and didn't enforce policies or follow physician orders. Activities and communication were hit-or-miss. Beautiful place, but I can't recommend it based on the serious care and safety problems we saw.

    About Brookdale West County

Brookdale West County is a senior living community that offers many kinds of care, like assisted living, independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care, and it covers just about everything you could need on one campus so people can age in place as their needs change, and you'll find studio and semi-private apartments along with lots of indoor and outdoor spaces, including a dining room, library, beauty salon, café, TV lounge, art studio, and easy walking paths both inside and outside, plus there are fireplaces and gardens that make it feel home-like and peaceful. People living here can get help with daily tasks like bathing, grooming, cooking, cleaning, and managing medication because there's a team on-site 24/7, including nurses and doctors on call for medical support, and there's also a full 24-hour call and security system, keypad entry, and even a wandering alert system to keep people safe, especially those with memory loss.

For folks with Alzheimer's or other dementias, the Clare Bridge memory care program has its own secure area and staff with special training, personalized care plans, and activities like brain fitness, reminiscence therapy, light therapy, and sensory programs, and they accept residents with challenging behaviors or a tendency to wander. Memory care here means there are dedicated programs, a badging system for safety, and a secure courtyard so people can be outside safely, and there are private and shared community spaces that allow for socializing or quiet time, depending on what each person needs.

Life at Brookdale West County is full of options, with a big calendar of events, fitness classes, art, music, movie nights, gardening, karaoke, cooking classes, stretching and chair yoga, and even pet-focused activities, so there's usually something to do, and they have both an indoor and an outdoor spot for devotional services and regular visits from health specialists like nurses, therapists, podiatrists, and dentists. Residents can have their own dogs or cats, and for those needing it, there's help with laundry, grocery shopping, and transportation, whether it's complimentary rides for outings or resident parking for those who still drive.

Meals come in many types here-restaurant-style dining is available along with room service and guest meals, gluten-free or vegan meals, low sugar or no sodium diets, and special diet plans to fit each person. There's a full-time activity director planning arts and crafts, billiards, educational programs, trips, and social gatherings, and housekeeping keeps the place clean, while safety features like wheelchair accessible showers, full tubs, and fall prevention measures are built in to meet physical needs along the way. Hospice care, respite services, coordination with outside doctors, and even at-home care services are all options here, so people's needs are met as they change, and the focus always stays on helping everyone live well, stay active, and feel part of the community, since this is a place that's both lively and supportive without being overwhelming. Brookdale West County is part of the Brookdale Senior Living network, which is known for offering a wide range of senior care choices and keeping up with programs to help people keep their independence and enjoy life as they grow older.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale West County is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
