    Loving compassionate spotless caring community

I feel my grandmother is in very good hands - the staff are loving, compassionate, and very responsive, the facility is spotless and faith-filled with a beautiful chapel, and care and diet are adjusted to individual needs. Friendly atmosphere, good activities, and residents treated like family make this a place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews describe a facility with many strengths in daily care and atmosphere alongside a few operational weaknesses that prospective families should evaluate. Several families praised the cleanliness of the building, an attentive caregiving team, and a calm, faith-centered environment. Multiple accounts emphasize that residents are treated in a family-style way and that visits are peaceful — comments that point to a reassuring baseline of personal care and atmosphere.

Care quality and staff: Care is frequently characterized as excellent, compassionate, and responsive. Reviewers highlighted individualized care, diet adjustments to clinical needs, and instances of staff going above and beyond. The presence of religious caregivers and an on-site chapel contributes to a faith-filled environment for residents who prioritize spiritual care. At the same time, there are operational concerns: staffing shortages were mentioned and appear to create variability in coverage, and a small number of accounts raised issues about staff conduct or communication tone. One review referenced an employment dispute; this was presented as an isolated personnel incident but indicates potential gaps in HR or management communication that families may wish to explore.

Dining and activities: The facility offers adaptive activities and social programming that reviewers described as engaging and appropriately adjusted for residents. Dietary accommodations are available and have been noted as a positive. However, reviewers gave mixed feedback on meal quality: some called the food good and well-suited to resident needs, while others indicated dissatisfaction. This suggests variability in the dining experience rather than a consistent pattern of excellence or failure.

Facilities and location: The physical environment receives strong positive comments for cleanliness, upkeep, and an inviting reception. The Catholic chapel and faith-based programming are repeatedly cited as distinct advantages for residents seeking spiritual services. The location was described as convenient, and the facility’s interior and communal spaces were characterized as well maintained.

Management and notable patterns: Several reviewers praised responsiveness to concerns, suggesting that leadership engages with families on care issues. Counterbalancing that, there are mentions of management and HR communication gaps, and uneven application of resident-centered quality-of-life planning. A recurring operational gap involves sensory-support services: multiple comments specifically note insufficient attention to hearing and vision impairments. Taken together, the pattern is one of strong individualized caregiving in many cases, with occasional operational inconsistencies (staffing, dining, sensory support, and communication) that can affect the resident experience.

Recommendation for prospective families: The facility appears to provide compassionate, faith-aligned care in a clean and welcoming setting, with adaptive activities and personalized diets. Families should confirm current staffing levels, ask about the facility’s approach to hearing and vision support, and review dining menus and meal-service practices during a visit to assess consistency. Inquiring about management escalation paths and recent personnel practices may also clarify the facility’s responsiveness and communication processes.

About Mother of Good Counsel Home

Mother of Good Counsel Home sits on Natural Bridge Rd in St. Louis, Missouri, and has supported seniors in the community since 1932, offering nursing home, assisted living, and memory care services with a strong focus on safety and comfort, and the staff, with many working there over ten years, provide round-the-clock skilled nursing, medical support including wound care, podiatry, medication help, and occupational therapy, so residents with different care needs can find the right help. You'll find private and semi-private rooms, as well as studio, single room, and two-bedroom apartments for assisted or independent living, all with amenities like cable TV, WiFi, guest parking, kitchenettes, washers and dryers, sprinkler systems, and handicap features, and the bright, spacious rooms can be personalized with furniture or belongings that make a person feel more at home. Meals, including three homemade ones a day with options for special diets, are served in the dining room, and laundry, housekeeping, and personal care assistants help with daily needs like dressing, grooming, bathing, and medication. Residents can get help with movement, in and out of the shower, two-person transfers, and support with doctor's visits and errands thanks to transportation services, and there's help for those with diabetes, high blood pressure, or other conditions. Community activities fill each day with things like arts and crafts, exercise, music, book clubs, movie nights, dance, beanbag, air hockey, ping pong, puzzles, guest events, and outdoor relaxation, and the staff schedule at least two activities a day, along with larger events like Thanksgiving dinners and birthday parties. There's spiritual life, too-residents can attend daily Mass, prayers, receive communion, join the rosary, and talk with chaplains, with religious guidance inspired by the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, which you can really feel throughout the place. The environment encourages people to feel safe, respected, and cared for, with the staff guided by a mission to show Christ's mercy and love in daily life, and they're known for keeping a calm and peaceful atmosphere. For people facing dementia or memory issues, memory care programs and a special caregiver support group meet in person every second Tuesday of the month at 5:00 PM, where families get help, learn problem-solving skills, and talk in a supportive, confidential setting. Many visit the fitness center, salon or barbershop, spa, and recreation rooms, and there's always a place to read, pray, or just sit quietly in the yard spaces and outdoor areas. Professional nursing staff and the Sisters provide ongoing care and counseling, with those needing rehabilitation therapies getting the attention they require. Prices range from about $1,500 to $8,500 a month, depending on room style and care level. The focus remains on helping every resident keep their independence as much as possible while making sure they have the care and community support needed for a healthy and pleasant life.
