    Placed mother here; very satisfied

I placed my mother here and have been very pleased. The community is beautiful and spotlessly maintained-elegant, Hilton-like common areas and a warm entrance. Staff are consistently friendly, attentive and caring, the activities program is outstanding, and meals are excellent thanks to a terrific chef. Residents seem happy and engaged, the location is convenient, and admissions was smooth. Overall very satisfied and I would recommend it to other families.

    Summary of reviews

Promenade Senior Living presents a mixed picture: the community offers strong physical assets and a robust activities program, but recurring operational issues create variability in day-to-day resident experience. Reviewers consistently praise the facility’s appearance and amenities — well-appointed common areas such as a theater, bistro, courtyard, and library; attractive decor; and a range of apartment layouts including wheelchair-accessible units. The community’s location near shopping and major roads, available transportation with a wheelchair lift, and on-site supports (weekly doctor visits, beautician, laundry, medication delivery) are also frequently cited as strengths.

Activities and social life are clear highlights. The property supports a lively calendar (ice cream socials, happy hours, outings, movies and holiday events) and several accounts single out an experienced, passionate activities director. These programs contribute to a social, engaged resident population and are complemented by friendly, sociable residents. Dining quality is more variable: when an experienced chef is in place reviewers describe high-quality, regularly changing menus and generous portions, while other accounts note limited menu choices or lower food quality during chef turnover.

Care quality and safety reveal the most significant concerns. A consistent theme is understaffing and high turnover, which reviewers link to delays in basic care tasks, missed medication administrations, and gaps in monitoring. Multiple families described delayed responses to call buttons and communication lapses after falls or medical incidents. At the same time, there are positive notes about compassionate direct-care staff and capable memory-care nurse assistants; however, those strengths appear uneven and, according to several families, insufficient to offset coverage gaps during evenings, weekends, or leadership absences. Prospective families should verify current staffing ratios, on-call clinical coverage, and documented emergency-response procedures.

Operational and administrative weaknesses also recur. Reviewers cite billing errors, confusing fee structures (including a sizeable community fee), and slow or inconsistent refunds. Communication from administration and nursing is described as inconsistent, with reports of unreturned calls or limited weekend phone availability. Housekeeping and maintenance performance is uneven: while many describe a clean, hotel-like environment, others note sanitation and incontinence-care concerns in particular areas, inconsistent laundry handling, and unresolved maintenance items such as room temperature control.

In summary, Promenade offers a well-appointed environment with strong social programming and several knowledgeable, caring staff members. Those positives are tempered by operational instability — particularly staffing, clinical consistency, communication, and financial administration — that has led to notable variability in resident experiences. Families considering the community should schedule a meal-time visit, ask for current staffing and turnover data, review medication-administration and emergency-response protocols, clarify billing and fee policies in writing, and tour memory-care staffing and programming to assess whether the facility’s current operational capacity matches the prospective resident’s care needs.

    About Promenade Senior Living

Promenade Senior Living sits high on a hill, which gives wide views of Clayton and downtown St. Louis, so folks living here can look out over the city while they enjoy their day, and what's nice is there's both Assisted Living and a secure Memory Care neighborhood with 26 specialty suites, so people can pick what best fits their needs as they change over time and keep living in one place. There's a range of apartments, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, and they all come with modern touches, private space, and you'll find they like to keep things comfortable and home-like without feeling too fancy or stuffy, and if anyone has a pet, there's pet-friendly policies to help people keep their companions close by, plus all the apartments and common areas are designed to be handicap accessible and easy to get around.

Meals get made by chefs and planned for good taste and healthy ingredients, and residents eat three times a day in open, restaurant-style dining rooms, or they can go to the bistro for snacks or meals any time they like, since food and refreshments stay available around the clock, and the dining staff pays close attention to folks' dietary needs and makes sure to include seasonal dishes to keep things fresh. There are weekly housekeeping and laundry services, so people don't have to worry about chores, and high-speed Wi-Fi helps everyone stay connected with family and friends or enjoy entertainment online.

Community life has a changing calendar, so every day brings new events or outings, from exercise classes, happy hours, and ice cream socials to movies, games, puzzles, educational seminars, and trips to local spots or nearby shopping centers like The Promenade at Brentwood, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and several restaurants and stores, which are all close by and easy to reach. There's also a cozy theater and a fitness area, along with an outdoor garden, covered patio, and walking paths where people can spend time outside in good weather, and all the spaces get designed for senior safety and comfort.

The caregivers and staff get lots of training in both general support and dementia care so they can help with needs like bathing, dressing, medication management, and companionship, and the community pays attention to each person's individual care plan to support well-being, dignity, and joy, which is part of their mission to help everyone live each day with purpose and comfort. The Memory Care neighborhood stays secure for those living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, and the layout's meant to reduce confusion or wandering, so residents feel safe and cared for. There's always a focus on friendly staff who try to be helpful, joyful, and kind, which helps keep the community upbeat and inviting, and the care options include everything from independent living to home care, with aides who can come in to help with non-medical needs. The community even offers tours for people thinking about moving in, so they can look around, try a meal, and see the daily activities, and twice a year, the facility gets reviewed for its license to make sure it's meeting all the important standards.
