    Compassionate responsive professional attentive care

I'm very pleased with the compassionate, hands-on leadership (Executive Director Cam and administrator Melissa Batty) and an exceptional, highly responsive caregiving team. Nurses, CNAs and rehab/PT staff provided round-the-clock, well-equipped care-hospice/pain management was excellent and small comforts like hot tea, hugs and attentive listening meant a lot. The facility is clean, transitions from hospital were seamless, and staff consistently went above and beyond. Overall I'm grateful for the respectful, professional care and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed but detailed picture of care at Curis Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Many families and patients praised the interpersonal quality of care: nursing and direct-care staff are frequently described as compassionate, attentive and willing to go beyond expectations. Rehabilitation services and therapy staff receive consistently positive comments for competence and outcomes, and the physical therapy area is noted as bright, well equipped and professionally staffed. Dining has reportedly improved with dietitian involvement, timely meal service, and generally well-prepared food.

Care delivery shows strengths in person-centered interactions and availability of supportive services. Reviewers highlighted helpful reception and security processes, hospice and pain-management capability, and an environment that many described as peaceful, clean and orderly in common areas and hallways. Several reviewers called out specific administrators and leaders as engaged and visible, and others described a friendly, respectful atmosphere that made residents feel valued.

At the same time, reviewers identified several operational weaknesses that recur across accounts. Communication and administrative responsiveness are frequently cited as areas needing improvement: families report difficulty getting return calls, trouble contacting physicians, and delays in administrative follow-up. Reviewers also described inconsistencies in medication administration and raised serious safety concerns in isolated cases; a few comments referenced medication errors and concerns following a resident’s death, which highlights the need for clear medication-safety and incident-response processes.

Day-to-day care consistency is another theme. Reported gaps include uneven nursing rounds and repositioning schedules, variability in room-level housekeeping and maintenance, and staff workload pressures that can lead to delayed assistance. Activity programming appears inconsistent in practice — activities may be scheduled but residents do not always receive the transport or staff support needed to participate. The facility’s physical plant is described as older and in need of remodeling or repairs in some areas; while common spaces and hallways are often clean and well cared for, resident rooms and certain structural elements were noted as requiring attention.

In summary, Curis Concord shows clear strengths in compassionate caregiver interactions, therapy services, and improvements in dining; these are meaningful positives for prospective residents who prioritize rehabilitation and an attentive care atmosphere. However, families should consider the reported operational issues — particularly around medication processes, communication with clinicians and administrators, consistency of direct-care tasks, and room-level housekeeping/maintenance — and ask targeted questions during a tour. Suggested inquiries include staffing levels and shift coverage, medication-safety protocols and incident reporting, frequency of nursing rounds/turning schedules, procedures for family communication and physician access, and the facility’s timeline for planned renovations and targeted room maintenance.

About Curis Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Curis Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center sits in Concord, North Carolina, which is a city with around 104,595 people, and the center itself is at 515 Lake Concord Road NE. The facility's got 120 skilled nursing beds, though the state lists its licensed capacity at 22 out of those 120 beds as of June 2025, and it generally sees about 83.66% occupancy. It's for-profit and run as a Limited Liability Company called Curis Health Systems, LLC, under the management of Mr. Cam Cecil, with Shellie Moore as the administrator. The center's main focus is on nursing and rehabilitation, with services for seniors, children with chronic diseases, and patients coming out of the hospital. Curis Concord's been serving North Carolina for more than 13 years and is recognized as a skilled nursing facility for folks who need help after surgery, illness, or a hospital stay.

The facility offers plenty of health and personal care services, such as skilled nursing care, medication management, wound care, help with daily tasks like dressing or bathing, and there's a memory care program for those with dementia or Alzheimer's. Some staff with experience you'll find there include registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, healthcare aides, speech and language pathologists, dieticians, pharmacists, social workers, and a medical director. They also provide therapy - there are hours for respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, with aides helping as well, plus nutritional counseling is available. The center offers safety features like handicap accessibility, constant supervision with a 24-hour call system, and sprinkler systems.

There's a resident council and a family council, which gives people living there and their families a say in decisions. The center isn't accredited by the BBB but passed their vetting process and is listed under Nursing Home on the BBB website for the Southern Piedmont and Western N.C. region, though it does not have a BBB rating. The reported nurse quality and long-term care grades aren't strong, but the staff carries professional licenses and training, which means residents get supervised care and access to therapy and specialty medical staff.

The property's set up with activity rooms, a cinema/theater, an arts room for creative projects, plus spaces for social activities, arts and crafts, and education and health programs. Amenities are about what you'd expect: a library, a spa and wellness center, a fitness area, and an activity space. There are furnished rooms with private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, phones, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, all ready to move into. Services like housekeeping, laundry, move-in help, and transportation are there as well. Residents can get meals in a dining room or a restaurant-style setting, with options for allergies or diabetes, and a chef prepares meals for all-day dining. There's staff watching over the nutrition side with dietary counseling.

For getting outdoors, the grounds have walking paths, garden areas, and outdoor programs. Safety is important to them, and they've built in features to support people with mobility or health struggles. Residents can participate in community programs, music events, resident-run groups, and movie nights. The facility has memory care focused on individualized care and a program for folks who need structured support and long-term nursing. Other support includes personal care services, companion care, dementia home care, live-in care, respite care, and home care, with help for families who need to take a break.

Curis Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center accepts a variety of payment sources, including Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits, long term care insurance, and private pay. The center does tours and virtual visits to help families find out if it's a good fit for their needs. It's associated with the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association and offers nursing, rehabilitation, and specialized care services, making it suitable for older adults and others who need support, skilled nursing, memory care, and rehabilitation after illness or surgery.
