    Compassionate professional care restored independence

I moved my mom here and I'm very pleased. Nurses, PTs, social workers and all staff were professional, respectful and went above and beyond-rehab helped her regain independence, they called after discharge, meals and activities (Bingo, outings) kept her engaged. The facility is spotless, welcoming and resort-like with attentive, compassionate care. I recommend this caring, organized team, though there's modest room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Murphy Rehab & Nursing elicits a mixed but generally positive set of impressions. Many accounts praise the facility's rehabilitation strengths, cleanliness, and welcoming environment: reviewers highlight an active physical-therapy program, attentive bedside care during critical moments, a clean and well-maintained building with attractive, resort-like décor, and a range of ancillary services such as dining, laundry, transportation, and a beauty shop. Social programming is robust—residents and families mention frequent activities (for example, Bingo and other stimulating events), successful social integration of rehab residents, and an uplifting atmosphere that contributes to morale.

Clinical care and staffing are described in two distinct ways across the summaries. On the positive side, numerous comments emphasize compassionate, skilled nursing and therapy staff who support independence goals, explain care plans clearly, and provide follow-up after discharge. Interdisciplinary functions such as kitchen staff, social workers, admissions, and front-desk personnel are also praised for being helpful and professional. On the concerning side, there are clear recurring operational issues: inconsistent adherence to individualized care plans, inconsistent personal-care routines (including bathing), and instances where documentation review and care coordination appear incomplete. These themes point to gaps in routine execution and oversight rather than to facility infrastructure.

Specific clinical concerns raised in several accounts relate to skin and wound management and delays in addressing basic personal-care needs. While the facility is repeatedly described as clean and comfortable, these clinical-process issues suggest variable execution at the point of care. Relatedly, some comments indicate gaps in staff responsiveness and accountability, for example delayed responses to requests for assistance and instances where family members had to escalate to obtain attention. Together, these items suggest opportunities for stronger shift-to-shift communication, clearer assignment tracking, and more consistent care-plan adherence.

Dining and amenities receive largely positive feedback: meals are described as being delivered when needed, and the kitchen receives favorable mentions. Facility amenities and security are noted as strengths, and the physical environment (including a distinctive front-porch rehab area and attractive rooms) contributes positively to the resident experience. The facility also appears to make an effort with admission processes and post-discharge follow-up, which some families found reassuring.

For prospective residents and families, the overall pattern is of a facility with strong rehabilitation services, supportive ancillary programs, and a clean, pleasant environment, paired with operational inconsistencies that can affect day-to-day personal care and documentation. When evaluating Murphy Rehab & Nursing in person, consider observing direct-care interactions, asking for examples of how individualized care plans are audited and reinforced, inquiring about wound-care and skin-monitoring protocols, and clarifying escalation and family-communication procedures. These targeted questions can help determine whether the facility’s operational practices align with the largely positive clinical and amenity strengths described by many families.

    About Murphy Rehab & Nursing

Murphy Rehabilitation & Nursing sits in Murphy, North Carolina, in a newer 68,000 square foot building that opened in the spring or summer of 2020, and it's run by local people with Century Care Management, which is a family-owned group. The place has 134 beds and is both Medicare and Medicaid certified, so folks who need help paying for care have some options here. They take care of people who need different types of help, from independent living and assisted living, to memory care, home care, and even hospice care, which means you can find short-term and long-term support under the same roof. They offer skilled nursing care all day and night, so folks who are very frail or need more hands-on care can get what they need, and there's a staff of licensed nurses and medical professionals who keep up with monthly training and yearly recertification, which helps them stay sharp in their work.

The building offers private rooms and has therapy programs for physical, mental, and spiritual needs. You'll find skilled rehabilitation, with occupational, physical, and speech therapy available, plus services like wound care, ostomy care, tracheostomy (Trach) care, PIC lines, gastric feeding tubes, podiatry, x-rays, and lab work. Folks get tailored care depending on what they need, and the staff say they're committed to compassion and a friendly environment from the first visit, even though the average overall rating is 3.0 out of 5, with separate ratings for health inspections, staffing, and quality measures. People who care for a loved one at home can also get short breaks using the respite care services. Residents often join activities aimed at keeping them physically and mentally active, with extra support for spiritual needs as well, and auxiliary aids are available for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The administrator is named Kelly Roberts, and the staff say they want to serve North Carolina communities with a focus on dignity and comfort, and they run programs for all sorts of care needs, so people with different challenges or stages of health still have options. There's a map view feature on their site for finding the facility and checking out similar places, and they've built their services so folks can move between different levels of care as needs change.
