    Family-like community with compassionate staff

I toured this smaller, family-like community and came away very pleased - clean, beautiful grounds and a warm, homey atmosphere. The long-tenured, friendly staff know residents well and deliver attentive, compassionate care; my family member is resting soundly and I feel they're in good hands. There are nice spaces and activities, including new cottages, and I'm looking forward to visiting again and recommending it to others.

    Summary of reviews

Legacy Village presents as a well‑kept, small‑campus community with a home‑like, rural feeling. The property offers a range of housing formats — free‑standing cottages, duplex‑style homes, and small apartments — with single‑level, no‑stairs options and garage choices. On‑site amenities include a clubhouse, library, community center, workout room, and spaces for social activity; the grounds and interior common areas are frequently described as clean and attractive. There are customization options for unit finishes, and the community is dog‑friendly. The facility’s affiliation with National Church Residences and an on‑site rehab program are noted as organizational strengths.

Care and staff feedback is mixed. Many families and visitors describe staff as compassionate, attentive, and long‑tenured, and they praise a warm, family‑focused culture and an active resident community. These accounts highlight attentive assistance, private rooms in some care settings, and staff who go above and beyond for residents. However, other accounts point to variability in staffing levels and responsiveness, and to instances where families experienced delays or difficulty obtaining expected services. Notably, continuity of clinical services — particularly rehabilitation and skilled‑nursing transitions after hospitalization — emerges as an operational weakness for some families. Prospective families should verify service availability and transition processes in writing.

Dining and activities are strengths in assisted‑living contexts but show gaps for independent living. Meals are provided in assisted living and reviewers generally describe variety, though some find food quality inconsistent. Independent‑living units do not automatically include meal service, which may be an expectation gap for downsizing residents; confirm meal plans and billing practices before committing. The community offers a range of activities and holiday programming, and reviewers commonly report engaged residents and an active social calendar.

Management and cost considerations warrant attention. Several reviewers describe the community as relatively expensive, with ongoing condo/maintenance fees cited as a significant recurring cost. There are also accounts indicating a mismatch between marketing or written promises and services actually delivered; families should review contracts and written service commitments closely. While many reviewers praise long‑tenured staff and caring leadership, others note variability in staff demeanor and occasional communication challenges.

Overall, Legacy Village appears to offer attractive facilities, a close‑knit atmosphere, and many examples of compassionate care. At the same time, there are consistent patterns around variable clinical continuity, staffing responsiveness, cost, and alignment between advertised and delivered services. Prospective residents and families would benefit from focused questions during tours: confirm the specific rehabilitation and skilled‑nursing pathways, staffing ratios and backup plans, which services are included for independent living versus assisted living, exact fee structures, and the condition/upgrade schedule for the specific unit being considered.

    About Legacy Village

Legacy Village sits on a large 253-acre campus in Xenia, Ohio, offering different options for seniors who want independent living, assisted living, memory care, or respite care, and while some may want a small one-bedroom apartment or a larger patio home with two or three bedrooms and a garage, both are options, and there are also new homes available if someone wants to build from scratch. The grounds have gardens, mature trees, walking paths, and open areas, so residents can take a walk or sit outside if they like. There's a 51-unit mid-rise building for independent living, with one- and two-bedroom apartments, some even with balconies, and the patio homes come ranch-style with open floor plans, sunrooms or great rooms, and garages.

Assisted living and memory care come with different kinds of support, like help with medications and health monitoring, and there's a secured memory-care wing for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia. If someone needs a break or short-term stay, respite care is available. There's staff and registered nurses on site at all hours, and caregivers, some of whom have worked there for over six years, are around to help with daily needs and emergencies. Everyone has access to an emergency call system in their room and the building has controlled entry.

Legacy Village also offers weekly housekeeping, flat linen service, personalized laundry, and snow removal, plus basics like cable TV and Wi-Fi, and there's a web-based communication system called CATIE. The common areas include a dining room with family-style meals, a bistro, fitness room, community center with banquet room and kitchen, and a lounge. Residents can join book clubs, play games, go to monthly theme parties, and if they want, reserve the community center for private events at no extra cost.

Besides regular activities, there's transportation services, meal service, and access to home healthcare, hospice, primary care, and even insurance help through National Church Residences, who owns the facility and has managed senior housing for over 58 years. Specialty features at the community include a bistro and fitness center, and there are events like luncheons, dinners with entertainment, and intergenerational gatherings. The assisted living building was newly renovated, including a secure wing for memory care.

Some apartments have all-inclusive rates, and for a few units, there isn't a second-person fee, but for certain services there can be extra costs. There's a virtual tour online if people want to see the campus before visiting, and staff can help answer any questions about retirement living options. The place tries to give choices for seniors at different stages, with licensed programs, different care types, and amenities, so everyone has something that fits what they need or want as they age.
