    Reassuring compassionate skilled nursing care

I placed my mom here and felt reassured-staff were friendly, professional and responsive (even at night), and the skilled nursing and PT/OT helped her recover quickly. The building is clean, the food was good, administration was attentive, and staff were compassionate (including excellent hospice support and help arranging family visits). Overall I was very pleased and would recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

The Cottage at Woodland Hills elicits highly polarized feedback. Many families describe positive experiences characterized by caring, attentive staff and effective therapy services that supported timely home discharge. Across several accounts, physical, occupational, and speech therapy teams received praise for helping residents regain function. Some reviewers also highlighted compassionate skilled nursing and hospice coordination, an accessible administration that resolved issues, engaging community activities, and recently renovated therapy spaces that enhance rehabilitation capacity.

Contrasting those positive accounts are recurring operational concerns. Reviewers describe inconsistent sanitation and room-cleaning practices, intermittent odor concerns, and lapses in incontinence-care procedures. Multiple comments indicate gaps in medication and supply management, including missing items and delays in refilling or administering orders. These clinical and logistical weaknesses were frequently tied to delayed responses for acute medical needs (wound care, infections, glycemic events) and to perceived variability in staff competence and responsiveness.

Communication and coordination are central themes. Families reported weak interdepartmental handoffs, slow implementation of diet or order changes, delayed discharge planning in some cases, and long hold times when attempting to contact administration. Laundry and personal-property management problems and maintenance deficiencies — aged building systems, damaged furniture/mattress issues, and occasional falling plaster or flooring hazards — were cited as facility-level shortcomings that affected resident comfort and safety. Several accounts raised pest-control concerns and inconsistent housekeeping in both older and newer areas of the campus.

Safety and regulatory concerns appear in a subset of reviews: fall-prevention and transfer-safety processes were described as insufficient in some instances, and a few serious individual claims — including allegations of theft and financial misconduct and concerns following a resident's death — prompted family complaints and referrals to oversight authorities. While these severe claims were not universal, they underscore the importance of verifying credentialing, care protocols, and incident follow-up when considering placement.

Dining and activities produce mixed impressions. Some families praised the meals and community programming, noting enjoyable social events and a pleasant dining area; others found meal quality inconsistent and service continuity lacking. Therapy availability and effectiveness also varied by case: several reviewers praised robust, effective therapy that enabled rapid improvement, while others said therapy sessions felt short or insufficient for their goals.

In sum, The Cottage at Woodland Hills offers demonstrable strengths in therapy services, compassionate caregivers, and pockets of responsive management, especially where staff continuity and recent renovation are present. However, persistent operational weaknesses — sanitation variability, medication and supply-control gaps, communication and coordination failures, maintenance shortfalls, and financial/billing concerns — create a mixed overall picture. Prospective residents and families should tour the facility (including both newer and older units), ask for staffing and therapy schedules, review medication and incident protocols, and seek documentation of how the facility addresses sanitation, safety, and billing issues before making placement decisions.

About The Cottage at Woodland Hills

The Cottage At Woodland Hills sits at 7707 S Memorial Dr in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and has been serving the senior community since June 24, 2002, with Steve Cox as owner and manager. This large nursing home focuses on skilled nursing care and long-term living for seniors, with services that include post-acute rehab, inpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, pain management, wound care, IV antibiotics, cardiac therapy, diabetes management, orthopedic rehab, and colostomy care. They offer long-term care for people who need extended stays and also help people recover after hospital stays or surgery so folks can get back on their feet.

The staff includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, medical staff, pharmacist and dietician services, respiratory therapists, speech and language pathologists, and both occupational and physical therapy aides, all working around the clock. A medical director oversees care, and the facility partners with physicians to personalize each patient's care plan. There's also help from psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, plus hospice care with support for emotional and spiritual needs, music therapy, and both on-call clinical and skilled care. Recreational therapy and engaging activities, like holiday events and shared dining, help keep seniors active and social year-round. Transportation services and a clinic are available on-site, too.

While The Cottage At Woodland Hills is not accredited by the BBB, it does hold an A+ rating and has had inspection reports that often exceed its overall score, which suggests good inspection results. Its long-term care quality ratings stay mostly in the B to B+ range, and its inspection grade of B+ points to only a few non-serious deficiencies. On popular review sites, it holds an overall rating of 3.0 out of 26 reviews, and its food gets good reviews though some say staff communication could be better. The place doesn't have a resident or family council, but staff work to create a home-like setting focused on wellness, dignity, and self-esteem, trying to make the move less stressful for newcomers. They also help the local Tulsa community by offering some free nursing services like blood pressure and blood sugar checks.

The Cottage accepts both Medicare and Medicaid and is a for-profit, individually managed facility, providing care with a close-knit, professional, and dedicated staff who aim to support residents' health and happiness, and with equipment and know-how to handle things like covid exposure if needed. Their website offers more details about their services for those who want to learn more about what's provided in this caring home away from home for seniors-though the facility has now been permanently closed.
