    Lovely historic campus, inconsistent care

I found a lovely, historic, home-like campus with many warm, professional staff, good activities, helpful therapy services, and very reasonable pricing. That said, staffing and communication were inconsistent-temps and slow callbacks-and there are troubling reports of serious lapses in memory-care and nursing (neglect, dehydration, missed care). If you visit, focus on the memory unit, staffing levels, and communication practices; with engaged management and family advocacy it can be a great, affordable place, but I would be cautious otherwise.

    About The Devon Senior Living

The Devon Senior Living sits along the Main Line in a garden estate with shaded walking trails, a park, a pond, a lake, community gardens, and a gazebo, and you'll find it housed in an elegant European-style mansion. Residents can pick from a variety of living options, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care for Alzheimer's and dementia, Skilled Nursing, and short-term or respite care, so people can stay and get the right amount of care as their needs change. The community's pet-friendly with a dog park and pet therapy programs, and residents can keep a dog or cat in their suite if they wish. There's a focus on safety, especially for residents with dementia, with secured, purpose-built areas, alarm bracelets for wandering, and 24-hour awake staff with computerized security that alerts staff if someone tries to leave. Suites come in different sizes and layouts, offering kitchenettes or full kitchens, and all have access to included basic cable, satellite TV, and internet.

The food service has flexibility, with meal plans offering one, two, or three daily meals made by a professional chef, with special diets like vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, kosher, low/no sodium, and low/no sugar options. Some people enjoy a complimentary breakfast and the MyChoice Dining Program, whether in a restaurant-style dining room, a private dining room for family gatherings, or a care-focused dining room if needed. The Five Star Culinary Dining Program's in place here, along with a cocktail lounge, ice cream parlor, and happy hour.

Recreational options cover most interests, with indoor and outdoor heated pools, a fitness center, exercise and stretching classes, yoga, Tai Chi, community gardens, an activity studio, a library, a theater for movie nights, and shaded trails for walking. Residents can join clubs, attend social events, play trivia, Wii bowling or games, practice art, take brain fitness or cooking classes, and join group trips, sometimes with transportation provided. There's also barbershop and beauty salon, a card and game room, and computer workstations. Religious and spiritual needs get met with an onsite chapel, in-house and offsite devotional services, and intergenerational programs. Volunteer opportunities are available.

Residents get personal care with daily needs, including help with bathing, medication management, transfer assistance (including lifts), and reminders as needed, with nurses and a doctor on call. Memory care residents receive support through the Bridge to Rediscovery program, with special accommodations for exit-seeking behavior and behavioral issues. Health services extend to visiting podiatrist, dentist, physical, speech, and occupational therapists, as well as FOX Rehabilitation therapy. The community manages care for varying levels, from people thriving on their own to those needing more supervision, and has additional services like hospice, aging in place, and outpatient rehabilitation.

For transportation, there's complimentary community van service, covered parking, and parking onsite for those who drive. Shopping is close by, and the community's gated for added security, with a concierge available to help with requests. Housekeeping covers cleaning, and community staff help residents plan senior care or understand costs, with detailed information about memory care and respite care fees.

The Devon Senior Living has programs and amenities aimed at helping residents enjoy their lives, whether by staying active, social, safe, or connected to the community, while having support if their care needs grow over time.
