    Professional, compassionate care restored independence

I'm very pleased with Cedars. Leadership (ED John Ashley, DON Vada Holcomb) and staff - from nurse manager Abu to caregiver Vanessa - are patient, kind and professional; the rehab team helped my sister return home and regain independence. The building, meals, plentiful activities and family-like, welcoming atmosphere are excellent, and new management has clearly turned things around. I highly recommend them, with only minor room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a polarized picture of Cedars Healthcare Center, with clear strengths in rehabilitation and community engagement alongside recurring operational and safety concerns. The facility's physical-therapy and rehabilitation program receives consistent praise for helping residents return home and for having an effective therapy team. Many reviewers describe a warm, family-like atmosphere supported by engaged activities (game nights, weekly music, religious and social programming) and staff who are sometimes described as compassionate, respectful, and welcoming. Several recent comments also credit new leadership and a management turnaround with visible improvements in staff morale and building appearance.

Care quality appears mixed. On one hand, families note strong therapy outcomes, individualized rehabilitation plans, and discharge support. On the other hand, there are repeated reports indicating delays in attending to residents (long call-bell response times, limited observation), delayed clinical tasks such as wound care, and concerns about nursing oversight at certain shifts. These operational gaps suggest variability in clinical timeliness and resident-monitoring practices that prospective families should evaluate directly.

Staffing and professionalism show both strengths and weaknesses. Multiple reviewers praise individual caregivers, nurses, and administrators for dedication and above-and-beyond service. Conversely, other accounts describe inconsistent professionalism, high turnover, and instances of poor conduct or inadequate training. These contrasting impressions point to uneven staff performance across shifts and the importance of confirming current staffing stability, training, and supervision practices during a visit.

Dining and activities are similarly mixed. Several reviewers report improved meal variety and engaging programming that supports social well-being. However, there are also persistent comments about unmet dietary needs and inconsistent kitchen follow-through for special diets. The activities program is frequently highlighted as a positive contributor to resident quality of life and should be explored as part of any assessment.

Facility condition and safety are notable areas of concern. Reviews cite maintenance deficiencies (aging furniture, ceiling damage), sanitation issues in rooms and common areas, pest-control worries, and laundry losses. Safety-practice weaknesses are described as including missing or removed alarm devices, bed-rail and transfer-safety gaps, and entrance security lapses. These are operational areas that carry direct implications for resident safety and comfort and warrant on-site inspection and questions about recent corrective actions.

Management and communications show signs of improvement in some reports and shortcomings in others. Several families credit new administrators and a new director of nursing with turning the facility around, improving morale, and addressing problems. At the same time, others report slow administrative responsiveness, unresolved laundry or property issues, and requests for stronger oversight. A subset of reviews references serious concerns that families felt required regulatory attention; prospective residents should ask management about complaint resolution, recent survey findings, and quality-improvement initiatives.

In summary, Cedars Healthcare Center demonstrates meaningful strengths in rehabilitation, social programming, and, in some cases, compassionate caregiving and leadership-driven improvements. Simultaneously, there are consistent operational concerns related to cleanliness, infection control, housekeeping, timely nursing care, safety practices, and administrative responsiveness. Families considering Cedars should tour the facility, review current staffing and infection-control records, inquire about housekeeping and maintenance protocols, confirm dietary accommodations, and ask for recent inspection or quality reports to understand how the facility is addressing the documented issues.
