    Loving attentive staff, homey rooms

I moved my wife here and we're very happy - the staff are loving and attentive, providing daily care (bathing, dressing, meals) in a spotless, bright, airy facility. Rooms are large and homey (decorate your own), the chef serves home-cooked meals, and there's plenty of entertainment (weekly musicians, chapel), so I highly recommend it for short- or long-term stays.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with reviewers consistently praising the staff, management, cleanliness, dining, and community atmosphere at Shenandoah Place Assisted Living. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the facility is beautiful — described as bright, airy, warm, and even antique in style — with large, living-room-like common areas and rooms that can feel homey and cozy. The facility’s appearance and upkeep receive repeated compliments, including specific notes about spotless common areas and a clean dining room.

Care quality and staff performance are among the most frequently highlighted strengths. Reviews call the staff loving, caring, compassionate, and attentive; several mentions note that staff assist with daily personal care tasks (bathing, dressing, toiletries) and provide meals and daily assistance. Management and leadership are described as excellent or fabulous, and reviewers explicitly recommend the community based on the quality of personnel and oversight.

Dining is another major positive theme. Multiple reviewers mention home-cooked meals, a talented chef, and the facility’s willingness to tailor meals to resident preferences. The dining experience is framed as part of the home-like atmosphere, with clean dining facilities and options that make residents comfortable. Where rooms lack kitchenettes, reviewers point out that small refrigerators are allowed, which mitigates that issue for some residents.

Activities and engagement are well represented in the reviews. The community appears to offer ample entertainment — weekly musicians, dancers, chapel services, holiday decorations (Halloween noted), and other community entertainment and engaging activities. These offerings contribute to a lively, social environment for residents and are repeatedly cited as a reason families are pleased with the choice.

There are some consistent caveats prospective residents and families should consider. The facility’s location is repeatedly described as remote — “distant” and “far from reasonable Virginia locations” — and some reviewers describe a lonely feel because the property sits in a wide, unpopulated expanse. That geographic isolation could pose challenges for frequent family visits or easy access to nearby services. Another recurring practical drawback is the absence of kitchenettes in rooms; while small refrigerators are allowed, those who want an in-room kitchenette should note this limitation. Finally, reviewers indicate there are smaller, quieter, and less expensive room options available — but these units are explicitly described as having smaller rooms, so prospective residents should check room dimensions and layouts to ensure fit and comfort.

In summary, Shenandoah Place appears to be a well-run, attractive assisted living community with strong leadership, a caring staff, high standards of cleanliness, appealing home-cooked dining, and a rich schedule of entertainment and spiritual services. It is recommended by multiple reviewers and suits both short-term and long-term stays. The most important trade-offs are location and room configuration: the property’s rural/remoteness can feel isolating for some, and standard rooms do not include kitchenettes (though fridges are allowed), with smaller room options available at lower cost. Prospective residents should plan a visit to evaluate commute/visitation practicality and to inspect room sizes and layouts to ensure they meet individual needs.

    About Shenandoah Place Assisted Living

Shenandoah Place Assisted Living sits at 50 Burkholder Ln. in New Market, Virginia, right in the Shenandoah Valley, and it serves seniors needing daily living support in a friendly, homelike setting with big, comfortable rooms and private baths so folks can settle in while keeping their independence. The staff handles usual care like help with bathing, dressing, moving around, and medicine, and they've got health and wellness programs meant for both body and mind, all with a 24-hour call system and supervision for safety. Meals get made fresh with restaurant-style dining, always looking out for people who need a diabetes-friendly meal or have any allergy issues, and there's plenty of seating in the well-appointed dining room for neighbors to eat together.

The community fills the days with scheduled activities, both inside and outside in the New Market area, and there's always something going on, like movie nights, arts and crafts in the community arts room, or reading time in the small library, plus time relaxing outside in the garden, sunroom, or walking on the paths. Residents can join community-sponsored and resident-run activities to help everyone stay involved or make new friends. The living areas invite residents to gather or unwind, everything's fully furnished, and rooms include kitchenettes, telephones, cable TV, and WiFi for comfort and convenience. There's a beauty salon and barber shop where folks can get their hair cut right on site, laundry and dry cleaning are available, and housekeeping keeps everything clean, with linens taken care of too.

The facility's got move-in help that makes it a bit easier for new folks to settle, along with emergency alert systems for added peace of mind, and care staff handle each person based on what they need day by day. Shenandoah Place focuses on active living, quality personal care, and helping each resident feel comfortable, whether they stay long-term or come in for short respite care support. With one review so far, the community holds a 5.0 rating, but the most important features are really about making daily life easier, safer, and friendlier for those who call it home.
