    Beautiful building, understaffed, poor care

I love the beautiful, spacious building and the activities - bingo and painting are real highlights. But severe understaffing, constant management turnover and poor dementia training have led to missed basic needs (diapers, showers, bedding), medication errors, dirty furniture and distracted or rude staff - I've even seen vaping and staff on phones during care. There are caring people and great programming when it's available, but I'd recommend a careful care-suitability assessment and close monitoring.

    Summary of reviews

Care quality: Reviews describe a mixed care picture. Positive accounts highlight suitable short-stay placements and occasions when staff provide attentive, friendly care. At the same time, multiple accounts indicate operational gaps that affect basic personal care — for example, inconsistent bathing schedules, delayed incontinence-care attention, bedding-change delays, and identified medication-administration concerns. These patterns suggest variability in daily clinical routines and oversight rather than a uniform standard of practice.

Staff: Staffing levels and workforce stability are recurring themes. Reviewers point to chronic understaffing and high staff turnover, which reviewers link to inconsistent care delivery. Several reviewers also raised concerns about staff preparedness for residents with cognitive impairment, indicating a need for stronger dementia-specific training. Reports of staff distraction while providing care (use of personal devices) and indoor vaping also raise questions about professional conduct and supervision; at the same time some families described individual staff members as courteous and helpful.

Dining: Feedback on food service is inconsistent. Some reviewers found meals acceptable, while others described variable quality and meal selection that did not meet expectations. Dining-area cleanliness and table-maintenance concerns were noted in some accounts, indicating gaps in sanitation and meal-service monitoring.

Activities and facilities: The facility's physical environment is described positively — attractive, spacious common areas and grounds. The activities program receives favorable comments when it is active: bingo, painting, and arts projects were called out as enjoyable and meaningful to residents. These offerings appear to be a clear strength when they are reliably scheduled and staffed.

Management and patterns: Frequent management changes and perceived weak leadership continuity were a notable pattern. Reviewers associate leadership instability with inconsistent policy enforcement, staff turnover, and variable responsiveness to family concerns. Positive experiences co-exist with significant operational lapses, producing a wide range of reported outcomes depending on unit, shift, or time frame.

Recommendations for prospects: Families considering this facility should inquire specifically about current staffing levels and turnover, dementia-care training and certifications, medication-administration protocols and error-prevention measures, daily personal-care routines (bathing and continence support), cleaning and linen-change schedules, and smoking/vaping policies and enforcement. Visiting during multiple times of day and discussing a care-suitability assessment with staff may help gauge whether the facility can meet an individual resident’s needs consistently.

    About Care Partners Appleton

Care Partners Appleton sits at 5101 N. French Road in Appleton, WI, and has space for up to 38 residents, both in private and shared suites, and those rooms all have emergency call systems, so if someone needs help fast, they can press a button and staff will come, because there's trained staff on duty all day and night, keeping an eye out and helping with bathing, dressing, transfers, and medication, and even helping folks get to the bathroom if needed. Residents get three meals a day served restaurant-style, and there are snacks and special diets for people with health needs like diabetes, and the menus have input from a dietitian. There's a dining room, a garden and a patio out back, and the place has cable or satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and high-speed internet so folks can watch their favorite shows or talk to family, and if they need a haircut or want to look nice, there's a beauty salon. The apartments are fully furnished, but people can bring small things from home if that helps them feel comfortable, and each suite has a kitchenette and gets regular housekeeping and linen service. There are scheduled activities every day, things like art and craft, bingo, movies, baking, and concerts, with special events for the holidays, pet therapy, and even some volunteering out in the community or projects run by the residents. Memory care residents get specialized support with programs for mental wellness, including memory-enhancing activities, and staff can handle coordination with healthcare providers, plus there are transportation arrangements for medical appointments or trips to the doctor when people need to get out. For folks who like to read, there's a small library, and there are meeting rooms with decorations, paintings, a piano, and televisions for bigger gatherings. The place has secure paths for walks outside and offers some hospice care when things get tough, and alongside all that, they say the community aims for a safe, homelike feeling that tries to support dignity and each person's needs, but it's worth mentioning that the reviews are mixed, with a score of 1.5 stars from five reviews, so each family's experience may vary, and it's always a good idea to visit and see for yourself.
