    Compassionate staff, active community, smooth

I'm very satisfied with this community. The staff are warm, attentive and truly go above and beyond; residents are happy and engaged with plentiful chef-prepared meals and a rich schedule of activities and outings. The building is bright, clean and homey, and management made the transition smooth. I'd recommend it to families seeking compassionate, active senior living.

    Summary of reviews

Parkside Senior Living is described across reviews as a bright, well-maintained, and largely new campus with spacious, sunny apartments and amenity-rich common areas. Many reviewers praised the physical environment: clean interiors, accessible design features (wide doorways, cinema room, chapel), and practical apartment layouts with kitchenettes and storage. Included services such as weekly housekeeping, laundry, transportation, and on-site social spaces contribute to a home-like atmosphere for residents and families.

Care quality and staff performance are frequently cited as strengths. Reviewers commonly characterize staff as warm, compassionate, and attentive—calling residents by name and engaging in open resident meetings. Rehabilitation and therapy experiences were highlighted as positive by several families. At the same time, there are operational patterns that prospective families should evaluate: intermittent staffing shortages, turnover tied to management changes, and variable day-to-day visibility of direct-care staff. Reviewers described delays in communication and instances that raised concerns about medication-management and clinical-incident response during periods of low staffing; there are also isolated allegations of unprofessional management practices and favoritism that warrant direct inquiry.

Dining and food service receive generally favorable feedback for quality, variety, and chef-prepared offerings (including seasonal fruit menus). Multiple reviewers enjoyed the dining room environment and special events, and some noted prompt correction when meals initially fell short. Nonetheless, there are mentions of occasional inconsistencies in meal-service continuity and variability in food quality; a few families requested more heart-healthy menu options. Prospective residents should sample meals and ask about kitchen staffing and menu cycles during a visit.

The activity program is broad and varied—bingo, puzzles, exercise classes, outings, and intergenerational or religious-community events are commonly referenced. Reviews indicate that activities can be engaging and help residents become more active and socially connected. A recurring operational note is that some programs are canceled when participation is low, which reflects both demand fluctuations and scheduling priorities.

Management and value considerations are mixed. Several reviewers appreciated move-in promotions, covered moving costs, and other incentives; others felt the price was high relative to perceived value. A management transition (to a new operator) was specifically mentioned as coinciding with staff departures and some service lapses; this suggests the need to ask about current leadership stability, staffing ratios, and retention efforts.

Overall, Parkside appears to offer a strong physical environment, a robust set of amenities, and many examples of compassionate staff and effective programming. The most consistent concerns relate to operational reliability during staffing or management transitions—affecting communication, meal continuity, and clinical responsiveness. Prospective residents and families should tour the facility, observe mealtime and activities, inquire about current staffing levels and clinical oversight, and review contract terms and any advertised move-in incentives before deciding.

    About Parkside Senior Living

Parkside Senior Living sits in DeForest, Wisconsin, right in a small village area between Lake Mendota and Lake Wisconsin, along the Yahara River, surrounded by parks, restaurants, and other local spots, and offers different kinds of care for older adults including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care with a focus on Alzheimer's and dementia, Home Health, Adult Day Care, and Nursing & Rehab services, so people can choose what best fits their stage of life. Residents live in private apartments-studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom, all on one level-with features like natural light, scenic views, private baths, kitchenettes, extra storage, and resident-controlled heat and air conditioning, and every home's part of a maintenance-free lifestyle where staff handle chores like laundry and cleaning so people have time for hobbies, friendships, and relaxation. The friendly, fully trained staff and caregivers are always on site, accessible and ready to help with things like medication management, bathing, personal care, or just lending an ear or a helping hand, and there's 24-hour emergency call response for safety.

You'll find lots of places to spend time, from the residents lounge and library to cozy movie theater, fitness center, meditation and worship areas, and a restaurant-style dining room where people eat three chef-inspired, home-cooked meals a day with staff serving up nutritious and tasty options, making meals a time to sit and talk together. The memory care area is tailored for people who need extra support, with therapists to help with speech, physical, and occupational needs, and the Independent Living PLUS program gives more active seniors an easy way to live with extra support if it's ever needed. The community welcomes pets, encourages friendships, and sets up regular activities like exercise classes, seasonal gardening, games, clubs, and scheduled outings for socialization, and you'll see residents traveling by scheduled transportation to area events or restaurants, while others play cards, join wellness programs, or relax by the pool with new friends.

Technology and social media tools help residents keep in touch with family or share life updates, and there's a beauty salon, barbershop, therapy and rehab spaces, personalized care, and services such as cable or satellite TV, Wi-Fi, utilities, housekeeping, and a maintenance team, all so residents can focus on enjoying each day. Care plans are fully tailored, so some people get daily help, while others want just a little support, and everything's discussed with the residency counselor. The staff say their goal's to keep people independent and feeling at home, honoring dignity and individuality, and many visitors and residents call it a welcoming, home-like place.

Parkside Senior Living is part of the Encore Senior Living and Parkside Retirement Community networks, running under Senior Lifestyle Corp., and it's received an A+ rating from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, while being called "Best of the Best" by the DeForest Times-Tribune for four years running. Apartments are age-restricted for seniors, and anyone can bring their pet if they want. Residents say life at Parkside feels structured enough for support but free enough for independence, with support available as needed, and help from dedicated staff who try to make sure residents live purposefully and comfortably in a community designed for their needs.
